Has any one cut the bolt threads off of the TJ doors.  I love taking the doors of but hate having to unbolt them every time.  I guess I got spoiled with previous CJ's.  Just want to make sure that the doors will operate properly before I grind them off.

I've heard of a ton of people who just grinded them off.....my only concern is that they may provide some sort of safety factor in an accident....considering I drive with NO doors most of the time, not really sure why I'm concerned about that.

They're probably there just so people couldn't easily steal them.

Yeah your most likely right.  I will probably go ahead and grind them off and not worry about.  Can't be any worse in a wreck than no doors at all and if someone really wants my doors then four small bolts will not stop them.  I just hope the bolts do not help line the doors up when they are shut.

I have a YJ...  I wondered how different that part of the door is, but I too have taken the nuts off and hadn't put them back on since.

If the doors are locked I can't see a way to steal them so I don't see much use in putting them back.

But I didn't grind the threads away...  You never know when I do want to put those nuts back on.

I have the nuts off my doors.  Occasionally, if I hit a speedbump right they might hop.  I'd be a bit more worried about half doors with no uppers on.  They could easily grow legs.

Whats wrong with leaving the threads there? i just dont put the nuts  on any more, but the threads don't hurt anything i don't understand why you want to grind them off. as soon as you do that your going to realize you need threads for one reason or another, thats just how it goes

There are nuts that help prevent someone from stealing your doors. If you grind off the threads, you have ablsolutly NO security from having this happen. It may look funky, but I would prefer to buy the secure nuts and put them on than have some schmuck steal my doors.

Who actually notices that?  Its only 1/2" threaded end sticking out of the door hinge.  I would not cut them off.  If you ever find you want to use them again, you'll have to either replace the hinge and get it painted or else pound out the stud and replace it which is a real PITA.

ok  mozman as a jeeper you just said the most stupid thing. who  really cares what it looks like your not driving a vette or viper or some nice looking high speed sports car, your driving something that has the aerodynamics of a filing cabinet on wheels. plus like jeffy said as soon as you cut them off you'll realize you need them for something. if your a real jeeper you dont care about a little piece of thread sticking out, if people are looking at only that then your jeep must not be much to look at

My point is...JUST PUT THE STUPID NUTS ON THEN....either decide you are going to use them or not.  I don't care if you cut them off....but are people so lazy that they can't screw in four nuts by hand so it looks a little nicer??
