Time to do my brakes!
« on: July 31, 2006, 08:12:19 PM »
Its that time!
I need to start doing my brakes. There's no noise but the dealer said it was getting very low. I have done brakes before, BUT...
It was only on small cars like saturns and VWs. Never a small truck or 4whl drive.
Before I dive into it head first.... Is it much different than small cars?
I will have to pull the rotors off too and get them fixed so I don't get that nasty wobble when I hit my brakes. Any difference in that? Thanks in advance!

It being a truck or 4wd means nothing.  They're all about the same.  You'll want to make sure you have a pair of brake plyers to take the springs off without losing an eye.

If you have a wobble, have you made sure it wasn't bumpsteer or death wobble and not the brakes?  You can mic the discs to see if they can be turned.  If they're straight and don't have a huge amount of miles on them, they might still be good.  Same goes for the drums.  Now if they are warped or out of spec, it might be easier to jsut buy new drums rather then get them turned, which may or may not be possible.

Disc's are easy but drums can be hard.

Ill check out the cost of the discs and see if its worth it to get new ones, I don't have a wobble now, but every time I changed my brakes before, and didn't turn the discs I got a wobble. I guss I'm hard on brakes and warp em every time!   That's Chicago driving for ya!
I have 44k miles on the jeep all ready, but most of it is expressway driving. drums will be fine for a long wile.
