Hello guys. I was wondering if any of you can diagnose a problem for me. It seems that in the morning when I first start my jeep, it takes four or five seconds to start. This only occurs the first time I start it for the day. After that, for the rest of the day it starts almost instantly when I turn the key. Should I be concerned, and any ideas on how to fix it? All the maintenance was done within a year including a new battery, plugs, dist, all fluids,etc. Also the alternator was replaced two years ago. thanks guys.

Happens to me as well.  Always has to turn over a few more times in the morning before it starts.  Whether its normal or not I don't know.

That happened with my toyota. It was letting the fuel line drain overnight. Took the line off the carb and had someone crank it over in the morning and got a ton of air. Broke the frame before I figured it out though. :nothing:

Can you hear the fuel pump self-prime when you turn the ignition to ON? I forget is that a TBI or MPFI Jeep?

umm...I don't know Jeffy. It's a 99tj auto, if that helps. What  should the fuel pump slef priming sound like?

If it's a '99 then it's MPFI and should be priming.  You turn the ignition ON and you'll hear a electric motor sound as the gauges do their thing.

Sometimes I have to turn the key "On" twice to get the fuel pump to prime in my TJ.  Listen REAL closely.

Mine starts when the engine turns over, but...
Some mornings I turn the key and it will barely turn over... a very drawn out 2 times over Like the battery is dead... all my dummy lights go very dim. I think the battery is dead but then it starts right up with no issue.
This doesnt happen every day. seems to be moist or colder mornings.

I know the fuel pump goes for a second or two when the ignition is turned to on position.. but I usually don't wait (cuz im always in a hurry in the morning :P )  and go from off to start right away.. no time to "prime" that might be why it takes a few more turns?  Because the fuel pump is still priming while I the starter is cranking.  idk just some ideas...

Ha, I think this is probably my problem. So the last few days I decided to wait a seond and hear it prome first. So now it starts normally. Thanks guys :D
