Hi,

I just received a CJ5 from my Dad but it won't go above 40 mph on the road. These days, with the limited patience of some drivers, that can be a bit of a problem; even on the back roads.

Any idea on what I should look for? The engine sounds fine and it seems like the tranny is ok too. I'm stumped.

Thanks,

jvs

Either look for a old Warn Saturn Underdrive or go with the Advance Adaptor Saturn Underdrive.  It will allow you to do 65mph.  Top speed for that Jeep though should be 55mph.  You just need to rev it so it sounds like the engine's gonna explode.

Larger dia. tires would also help.

Thanks guys, I'll look for that. One question though......how will that affect the low end speed?

Thanks,

It doesn't.  Basically the overdrive can be turned on or off with an extra shifter.  This gives you double your existing gears.

No, it doesn't wobble, just seems to top out at 45, perhaps a bit less.
