I'd guess it was an older pre-90 YJ and it shorted out from a wire trhough the firewall.  I had a friend who's Jeep did the exact same thing.  The fire extinguisher was useless since it was too small.  Something to watch out for on the older YJ's for sure.

ouch.. i saw a landrover that started on fire on the freeway and the fire was slowly moving twords the tank see we droveaway as fast as trafic would move so we didnt get burned..
1990 YJ 4cly, ax5, 2.5 inch BDS lift, 31 MTr\'s,  Powertrax-lockers all around, track-bars removed, boomerang shackles, warn m8000 winch, electric fan. [sold but not forgotten]

Saw an early 90s XJ go up in flames on the side of a highway on my way home from work a week or two ago...  :cry:
