Hey, I'm the proud owner of a 95 Wrangler, 4 banger and an 01 Wrangler as well.     Letting my son drive the '01 as a first vehicle, figured none of his buddies would be asking to drive his standard jeep since most of them never saw a stick!

I'm starting to fix up the 95 wrangler, had a "new" rebuilt motor put in about 8 months ago after sitting up for 3 years with a blown motor in it.    I'm now finding trailing issues which I figured I would but not being a mechanic I figured I'd ask the experts.      Trying to get it to pass inspection at the moment.     Passed everything but the over 25 MPH emissions test.      Burning out old gas still left in tank, but after driving around for 20-30 minutes or so notice a bad smell, not like gas or oil, different.    Once there was either smoke rising from the rear possibly b/c it drifted to the rear when I was pulling into the drive.     My suspicions are the catalytic converter is clogged up and probably needs to be replaced.    I'm also experiencing a noticeable loss of power and some pops/backfires every now and then when accelerating...or trying to at least.

Any thoughts b/4 I start replacing parts all over the place?      Also, does anyone know if there was a recall on the catalytic converter on the 95 Wranler?

Bought a 99 2.5l 2 months ago its black an rolling on 31x10.5 bfg at's and 15in procomp black steelies with that gay ass  fake bead lock but hell it gets people to take a second look at it. :brick:

It climbs pretty well for a stock drive train looking to get some dana 44's or a ford 8.8 with lockers of corse. Im afraid to lock the 35 but i've bounced it pretty hard before and it didn't break.

the 2.5l isn't bad got it to push the beast on the 31's 105 mph i don't recomend going that fast thought its pretty hairy at that speed. :weee:

oh my names Josh going to school at washington state university and pretty much as broke as they come and i cant wait to lift my baby and role it for its first time... :stick:

I've been hangin' 'round here for a couple of years, OAO.  I watched several threads about building a more powerful banger, and danged if I didn't get the chance!  I have an '89 Wrangler- lifted (and droopin') with 33's.  Shortly after I bought it, I developed a hole in the air cleaner to throttle body flex hose which was discovered too late...  To shorten a long story, I now have a strong running banger that has (on occaision) put even some V-8 powered rigs to shame!  It has: homemade 1" throttle body spacer, "cleaned up" (not really ported) intake manifold, cleaned up bores, Clifford cam & lifter kit, Clifford header, free flowing cat and muffler, and a temporary free breathing breather/intake system.  I've also added 4.88 gears in the stock axles, a lunch box locker in back, and a TruTrac in front.  I did a tie rod flip and a power steering cooler; removed the fan and installed an electric fan out of a Saturn.  Hopefully, I'll be able to help out some people like I 've been helped.  Hopefully, I'll see some of you on the trails.  I would say "keep the dirty side down", but that doesn't apply to those of us that make it all dirty, so Just keep most of the rubber on the ground at any given time...

Hi
I recently picked up a '99 TJ in Gold.  Quickly fitted her with a 2" lift, 31x10.5 GoodYear tires and nice black procomp rims.  Also replaced the stereo...need tunes :)
Previously own a '99 Sahara and a '98 Sport.
I miss the power of the 6 cylinders but this little 4 banger is without a doubt the most fun out of the three I have owned.

Howdy...just another happy owner of four angry squirrels sittin' on top of a brick on wheels.  :beers:
my previous vehicle was a Dodge Ram V6 so the power was there but eeeh decided to buy a Jeep for multiple reasons but probably because it fits my personality and my way of life better than the truck did. Looking into doing some mods but not too many since it will be my DD and I'm a broke college student "GIG 'EM AGGIES!"  :thumb:

Looking forward to getting ideas from yall and hopefully exchanging some of mine.

Hey all

Great Forum!

Just acquired a 95 YJ 4 banger - 5speed- with 160000 miles on the meter.

Very stock and unmolested. Cant decide what to upgrade first.

Needs a tune-up and oil changed.

Look forward to contributing.

Welcome Bret.

If I were you (and I was in the same situation 2 years ago), I would start by changing everything that typically wears out just to be sure where you stand...

1. Change Oil (I personally like synthetics)
2. Change Oil Filter
3. Change Spark Plugs
4. Change Spark Plug Wire
5. Change rotor and cap
6. Change differential fluids
7. Change Tranny oil (I recommend RedLine MT90!)
8. Change TC fluid
9. Flush cooling system
10. Flush Brakes
11. Flush brake fluid
12. Check (and change if required) brake pads and shoes
13. Change wipers (not good not to be able to see in the rain)
14. Check (and replaced those needed) light bulbs
15. Change Air filter

After you do that, you may want to go for the simpler mods, like the bored 4.0L TB (I think Bounty Hunter is selling some here, but I dont know if he has any left) and the e-Fan (I recommend the FoMoCo; cheap and powerful!).

'94 YJ 2.5L with 4" RE lift, Superwinch EPi9.0, FoMoCo e-Fan, SD30 and SD35 w/ARB-5.13, 165A alt., 33" BFG KM2 on 15" AR wheels, Sony sound system, Pavement Ends Hardtop, Hydroboost

Hi, my name is Scott and I live in Southern California. I have been a member of this site for a while and think it's about time to post some pic's!

I bought this stock as can be 97 TJ from a the original owner in 2007, an older lady from Laguna Nigel, CA. It had never been offroading and I got a book of all maintenance everdone on the vehicle, it had 96,000 miles on it and was superclean (- the soft top and tires).

The first thing I did was put some BFG AT's 31x10.5 on it with cragar 15x8 soft 8's. Then added a 2" RE BB. As you know you cant stop there!

Added a magnaflow CAT and Banks Monster Cat-back, then added an AEM cold-air intake.

Then just recently put on a new front bumper and rear w/tire carrier and some KC aux lights on the new bumper.

New Pavement ends summer top plus and cheapo seat covers!

Took doors of added mirror movers!

Still waiting for VDP sound bar to come in and rocker guards both on back order.

New CD player with Sirius ( gotta have Howard Stern if you sit in this L.A. traffic) and speakers.

future add on's 3.5" RE short arm 33x12.50's, Kargo Master roof rack w/KC aux lights x4 and Warn winch!

I have a buddy at work whose brother works for jeep and says he can get me a new D44 rear with factory lockers for $500 and i told him in a second if that's what he can get! Also supposed to check to see if he can get D44 for the front, it sound 's to good to be true will let you know if I can get the deal of the century!
