Performance Distributors: FireWire Ignition System

I just wanted to give a little review on this product.  I bought it back in early May, Install went smoothly and there was a noticeable difference in the JEEP.  When installing I used generous amounts of dielectric (sp?) grease, 2 days after installing I picked up a new set of plugs and gapped them larger.  I pulled off the wire to cylinder 1 the wire pulled off w/ connector still on spark plug.  Needless to say I was not happy.  Dumpster dived for my old wire for #1.  Left a message with PD (it was after hours) got a call the very next morning and they said they would send a replacement out free of charge.  I asked if they could overnight it as I was headed out to play in the sand for a week, “sure no problem”.

Fast forward to today, have some time on my hand decided I should check and probably change plugs.  Everything is going great till I get to cylinder #4, wire pulls off w/ connector still on spark plug.  Called PD, let them know when I bought the kit and what happened the first week and what had just happened.  Talked to them and asked if they would send me another one and if they had remedied their quality control issues. (I have NEVER had any other set of wire come apart on me)  they stated they thought they had fixed the quality control issues an they would be glad to send out a replacement wire at the beginning of next week.

I think the coil was a good upgrade and worth the money, the cap and rotor needed to be replaced but probably could have just gone to the auto parts store to get them.  I don’t think the wires were a good investment.  In conclusion the coil is a great product, you probably don’t need the whole kit, Customer service is above and beyond but quality on the wires was very much less than desirable.

Long post over.

I also found nice performance gains, as mentioned in earlier posts.  I didn't have problems with the wires though.  I did have to pull them off of the Distrubuter when I first installed all the stuff as I'd put them on in the wrong order, but they came off clean and intact.

Thats to bad that they were falling apart for you, but nice to hear about their customer service.

I'd agree though, that the coil is the biggest contributer to the gains you'll get with that setup.  If in doubt, just buy the coil.

What part was coming off?  The clip inside the boot?  The whole boot and clip?  I haven't had any problems with mine and they're the prototype.

the metal connector that is inside the boot seperates from the inside of the boot and stays on the spark plug.
