so yea ive had my brothers truck this whole week, b/c my mom can't drive it and her leaf spring snapped.  so today, was driving and the weld on his perch on the axle decides to break.  well this causes a whole chain of events, the axles twist, driveshaft breaks free, and hits the ground, and just flops a round like a fish outta water.  so there was a cop like 5 cars behind me and he calls a tow truck.  now i pull the drive shaft out, and notice that the yolk that holds the ujoint cracked.  somehow his drivers side leaf bent.  this happened while leaving high school, now none of the freakin spoiled rich asshole stopped to lend a hand, or ask if i needed help, nah the just stopped, laughed and drove on.  god i hate my school.  sorry for the long post, just had to vent, and share my great story.  word to people if you ever do a soa, dont use a arc welder to weld on the perches, IT DOESN'T WORK GOOD!!!!!!!!

same thing would happen at my school.. except i my stop if i see a fellow jeep that needs help

Well it's not the arc welders fault. I'd say it's the person and the rod he's holding in his hand :)

Seriously though, who ever welded it must be inexperienced. My buddy who's  b-pressure certified can lay beads on my 50 yr old 220 volt arc welder that would make anyone elses welds (with a mig) that I've seen look amature.
He welds 1 1/2 inch steel plates, butt joined but deeply chamfered, or v-groved, with over 30 beads each joint from one side only, and must pass x-ray. Incredible skill, I've seen his test plates.

I was lucky to have him over to teach me some welding with my ancient arc welder and give advice on rods for a few hours. I must say my welding is ten times better now and I also know what is acceptable and what is not. That afternoon was worth more than a month of night courses.

Absolutely!  Mine were welded with an Arc and have been fine for 3 years now.  Arc welds aren't pretty but when done right they are strong.

umm yea it was the welders, we did his lift after work over one summer at like two in the morn when we got out,  and well im not gonna lie beer was involved,  maybe thats why it took us a whole summer.
