4WD Hardware Exhaust / Other Suggestions?
« on: November 09, 2006, 04:14:43 PM »
For those of you who read my other post, my Jeep is still squealing.  We're working on that.  But, thanks to numerous trips under it, I finally found my exhaust leak.  I'm looking at a cat - back system, and wondered if anyone had used the 4WD Hardware system, and what they thought about it.  I'm needing to stay pretty cheap, so I'm pretty sure stainless is out of the question right now.  Also, my converter seems fine for now, so I don't plan on changing it.  I don't want anything that sounds like a rice burner, so I'm looking for suggestions.  I know there are several other posts on here about exhausts, and from what I've read, most are suggesting Gibson, Banks, and Borla.  What about the cheaper systems?  I've got other things to fix, and that I want to do, so I'm willing to sacrifice a little on the exhaust.

I wouldn't go too cheap on the exhaust unless you like doing exhausts.  MagnaFlow makes a decent setup.  Dynaflow does also, I think.  I really like Borla for their warranty.  I've had to replace my muffler twice already and all I had to do was pay for shipping them the old parts.  I like the clamp on exhausts for this reason also.  I can undo it on the trail and then just have them order the right piece and be back on the road in no time.  No cutting or welding.

Ran the Dynomax Cat-back system before going with the Borla cat-back. Dynomax cat-back works on both the 2.5 and 4.0. It ended up getting dinged on something and needed to be replaced.  However, while it was intact, the Dynomax cat-back worked ok for me - a little noisier than Borla, but not terrible.  Think it run about $130 or so.

The 4WD Hardware Cat-Back is probably pretty close to the Dynomax Cat-Back in materials etc.  As a matter of fact, wouldn't be shocked if Dynomax actually manufactures the 4WD hardware Cat-Back.

rustysoffraod.com runs there cat backs for pretty close to the same price as the dynomak and 4wd hardware. It actually comes with a choice of mufflers. Both Flowmasters, but I remember reading that one is much quieter than the other. Depends on what you want I guess, any ways just a few more options for yah

I just bought a Dynomax cat back from Summit for $119 shipped. Replacement cat was like $89. Just got 'em Monday and have not installed them yet.

just checked 4wd.com and their exhausts are on sale right now for $113. I might have to get me one of these for christmas. Wonder how loud it will be though. That's my biggest concern, that and the install.

It's going to be louder - probably on par with the Dynomax, but maybe less.  If you use that subwoofer that you were talking about, doubt the upgraded exhaust's noise will register as much with you.  And, Wrangler's - at leat with softops - are fairly noisy anyway.  Just, with a cat-back,your 2.5 won't drive like it has a chronic head cold.
