Little help needed.....
« on: January 12, 2007, 07:28:19 PM »
Read this:

"Just get a Ford/Mercury/Lincoln 2spd fan from a 3.8L", for a fan replacement in my 95YJ with a 2.5L/5-speed.  Question is what vehicle should I be looking into getting a fan from?  After all....Ford/Mercury/Lincoln leaves the door really open.  Can anyone, recommend a specific model/make of vehicle?

I did this fan when I installed a griffin alum radiator, I used the 3 wire fan.

heres an article that should help.
http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2003/02/electricfan/index.php

the electrical is the complicated part, this thing can draw like 130 amps at startup. some have used golf cart selnoids etc. Aftrer reading a ton about this I opted for a dc controler http://www.dccontrol.com/
Works perfectly I couldnt be happier.

I got the DC controller, simple to wire up. the kit came w/ EVERYTHING, screws washers gromets, prewired harness, connectors and a fusible link as well as temp probe.

you use jumpers to set the startup temp. The fan starts slowly (variable speed switch) so no power spike. there is 1 wire that is a on/off switch for the controller. Either wire it to ignition, to a manual kill switch(water crossings) or to constant. constant allows the fan to run after you kill the engine. I used constant, works great.

Link(s) worked great, and thanks much!

What kind of radiator did you end up using?  Mine is okay, but it'll soon need replacing(very minor leaking, and most of the fins are bent).  Replacements around here are running $275-$325, unless you get a re-built for Autozone(2-core).

Wow, that looks great and fairly cheap for a aluminum radiator.

Have any close up's on the mounts?

no close ups, the mounts are universal radiator mnts from Summit racing. I used some roll bar pad to cushion. Griffin makes really nice radiators and their radiator specific to jeeps is $$. but this works, its the right demensions, inlet/oultets in the right oreintation. I used 1/8 hardware cloth on the front of the radiator to protect radiator a little bit.

My radiator would blow out the top portion every two years till I changed the thermostat to a lower degree rating, down to 180 I think.
