Anyone have some pics or ideas how to put together some custom Flat Tube fenders on my YJ without spending $100's on prefab stuff?  It's almost time to cut out some rust and I figure I can buy new fenders or weld together something better than original....  PoisonSpyderCustoms are really nice but even with them you still need the original inner fenders.  I have time and a MIG but very little available play money as I have a new JeepKid on the way!

I took a look here's the page link to the YJ model http://www.bluetorchfab.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=133_74&products_id=551.  This about half the cost of Spyder Customs http://www.spydercustoms.com/tjparts/tubefenders/index.php!  I was thinking just exactly along these lines but with the flare option to keep the tires covered for DOT purposes.  Doesn't look too complicated though...... perhaps I can fab up something like this. Thanks for a fast reply Mozman68!

Found anothersite
http://www.metalfusionfab.com/images/products/Tube_Fenders/TubeFenderBKRGB06.pdf, this is more like it!

I can see each piece I need to fab!   Here's a shot using the factory flares.....hmmmm

That is about the most bada** fender I have ever seen......  though it's a bit much for the 31's I run!  Hmmm... just how big could you go with out even a lift?  Thanx for the link Jeffy!

Let's see if I start the heater in the garage now..... park the wifes car out in the cold....in about 3 months I can get the metal warm enough to MIG properly!

I don't really like the whole 'Metal Cloak' thing.  The front fenders with the bump for the tire really look weird.   I'd rather have the whole fender up higher, which is why I like the AEV highfenders.

Their regular fenders are noce though.  I like the rivets.  It makes replacing a panel a simple job.

well I have started to sketch out some ideas.....  first, my inner fenders are in suprisingly good shape considering I'm in the rust belt.  so my ideas mostly will incorporate them.  I am leaning towards using atleast some diamond plate to fill between tubing.

but I can't decide what to do about the flares,  nothing I am seeing is quite right for my taste.  I really want 3-4" flares that still cover all the way to the bottom of the fender to keep most of the road debris off of the sides of the jeep and well.....me mostly.   :) kinda looking for the old Willy's look maybe....  either way I'm sure I can buy the steel alot cheaper than $175. Might mysteriously have to stop at the metal fab shop for a project at work,  atleast show the guys there some ideas.

looks to me like the grill is lifted( like a body lift?) and you can see the radiator which just happens to be yellowish.. my 2 cents of sight

Yeah, it's got a 1" body lift.  As everyone's already pointed out, you're looking at the radiator.

There was a Jeep owned by a guy on the Jeep-L that had really cool fenders.  They were made to look like classic flatfenders and not hacked up stock fenders.  I don't remember who's it was though.  There was also a pict in a Jim Allen book that had a YJ with classic flatfenders on it too.
