What usually happens is that when you pull the zipper you end up pulling outwards This separates the two guides of the zipper and causes meshing problems after years of use. Squeexing them back together won't fix the problem completely but it will allow you to get more life out of them. Otherwise you could have the whole zipper replaced at an upholstery shop.
