Topic: Zippers vs Sliders

I'm needing to replace my upper doors/windows, was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Bestop sliding windows?

A buddy of mine has a bestop top and upper windows, the quality seams to be good, although hes only owned the Jeep a month or so.  I have a set of sliders but switched to the zipper style ones for the increased visibility.  The only hting I dont like as the fact that sticks and branches scrape the hell out of them if you are on a wooded trail.

I prefer zippers over the sliders.  The sliders have some good things, like not fogging up as quickly but they are a PITA sometimes.  The tracks get crap in them then it's like sliding the window over sandpaper.  Not to mention the window not opening 100%.  You either have 75% or 50%.  The zippers, if you're used to them can quickly open for toll booths and other things fairly easily.

Thanks for the input, seems like most of the people I've talked to are also leaning me toward keeping the zippers ... saving a $100 doesn't hurt either.

Just remember, to get the most life out of the zippers pull across and not out.  It's kinda tough to remember until, the zippers start pulling off the tracks and you have to.

Thanks, but that isn't what caused the problem ... tree limb got it.

My driver side zipper broke and could not be closed on the start of a 200 mile drive.  A roll of duck tape and three and a half very noisy hours later I was able to get some threat and sew it shut.  I am getting the bestop sliders this weekend.  Can't wait!

Just got lucky, found 2 pairs of uppers. One with zippers and the other one is a slider ... both sets for $150. Guess I can judge for myself which is better.

I bought the wannabe sliders from www.4wd.com . It has a button snap that keeps the window open 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 way open without flapping in the wind. like $30.00 for both windows.hopefully I won't have to replace my zippers as often now, or the windows.

i like my zippers but they are about done, the window itself is still good except for a small 1.5" crack in the bottom  but the zippers don't zip right on the passenger side one of the zippers zips the other doesn't zip at all, on the drivers side I had the same problem one zips and the other doesn't at all then today that window wouldn't zip shut.  It was terrrible i spent liike half an hour zipping and unzipping and at the same 2 or 3 spots on the zipper track it would always split open, any remedies for this?

Try some silicone spray on the zipper teeth; also, pinch the two sides of the zipper mechanism together slightly, but not so tight that it binds on the fabric edge!

I had sliders, adn hated them because of the noise.  Just bought the Fiberglass door uppers with sliders.  baiscly they make the door into a solid ridgid door.  I LOVE THEM.  the two things I dont like is the windows dont open that far, And the Company that I bought them from Sucks!!! 4wheel parts LIES about price matching, There Customer Service Sucks.  And they are not accurate in pricing in there catalogs.  They advertise one price then clame its a miss print, but the next catilog they send its still listed at the "miss print" price.  Sound like a Bate and Swap to me.  BE CAREFULL where you buy your supplies.
