Topic: Do you hear it?? It's a funny clicking sound...

Okay...not really clicking (sorry...Christmas Vacation)....more like a deliberate "clunk" when turning....I can feel it in the steering column...can't tell if it's left or right side..maybe suspension related somehow??

I'm totally confused.  Just started up one day.

Will turn a corner and it will clunk once...maybe again when I start to straighten out...something with thew wheels??

Could be a loose trackbar or wallowed out track bar mount.  That's one pretty common problem that causes a clunk.

Thanks...will check that out tonight...was checking out everything yesterday and then got involved in straightening my steering wheel out...fixed that and then went inside...never came out to check all of the bolts.

Trackbar will be checked tonight!

One rule that often saves time is to check the last thing you "fixed."  It's happened to me a bunch of times.

I had this exact same problem on a Jetta once. I can't tell you exactly what caused it, but I ended up getting a new front axle and front end alignment and it never did it again.    Weird to hear the same thing on a Jeep.

haha worn out bushing tie rod end,ball joint, get to work looking.  this isnt a jetta boy, it has rear wheel drive, axle shafts dont go bad on jeeps they snap

I know my tie-rods clunk when I turn slowly or hit a bump while in a turn.  It has to do with the angle of my drag-link and the tie-rod and the draglink causes the tie-rod to roll forward or backward.

That's probably what it is...just checked and everything is tight and can't seem to find anything protruding or obviously wrong.  I guess I'll just live with it....what a shame if the axle was to snap off...I may just have to bite the bullet and put my new ones on...

try greasing them, sometimes grease fills the void and stops some sounds "SOMETIMES"

No....and it's starting to drive me crazy...it just doesn't happen on a regular basis, but does occur more often than not.

Getting warm here, so I'll wash it and crawl underneath for a closer look this weekend.....going to inspect the suspension and steering a little more closely...have someone turn the wheels while I'm under there....

Good thinkin. When the V-dub did it, it did it most when it was sittin' still, and it would usually pop once when I turned to the left, and twice when I turned it full right. I'm rootin' for ya, cuz it drove me nuts too!

Did you put a tire in the air? Move it top to bottom and side to side for play.

Yep...tried that (and the lug nuts) when I first noticed it a couple of weeks ago...guys in my club seem to think it is my axle joints...more then one guy posted that up and it is seeming to make more sense the more I drive it.....we'll see.

Okay...had my buddy turn the wheel while I tried to find the popping....right in the steering box...not sure what it is, but I guess it'll need to be replaced.  Thoughts??
