I've had my Optima U800 for a LONG time now.  I think I bought it in '97 or '98.  It's a great battery.  There is a new optima Red Top though.   The new one is squarer and a bit smaller then the U800.  I've drained mine down to nothing on a few occasions but throw it on a charger and it comes back to life.  One of the first things you'll notice with a big battery is that the starter will spin a lot faster then with the stock battery.  The only thing to remember with an Optima is to use the top posts for high amp items like the Starter and Winch.

Optima was bought out years ago by Interstate battery and now there are several different brands selling the Optima.

Doesn't Optima void the warranty if you use a red top with a winch? I've seen people do it and not hurt anything, plus how would they know but it might be worth looking into. Either way, red or yellow, Optima hands down. :thumb:

I have an optima yellow top and I can't run it down, I have left my doors off with out flipping the kill switch for the dome light for  a week straight and it started right up.  If you have a winch I would go yellow.

Optima Yellow Top/Starting technology for winching.  Starts just as well as a Red Top, but you can draw it down to nothing without destroying it.  I had a yellow top in my CJ2a for 5 years with an 8274 winch.  That same battery is now in the YJ.

That's if you put the high amp load items on the side terminals.  The side terminals are actually straps that connect to the top.  The straps can get hot and melt.  (although my winch is connected to the side posts )

Yeah but they made the yellow top for items like winches, why wouldn't you get it when you already have a winch.  GET THE YELLOW ONE :brick:

Most people do it because the reds are $30 cheaper  ???

Not everyone has a winch before they have to buy a new battery.

Sound like a nice easy Sat and a beer job.  :beers: I use a distribution terminal on my olds for the audio (roughly 80A draw) for the same reason. KnuKonceptz is where I get all my wiring/terminals, I highly recommend them. The one you need is 12.00 from them.
