Topic: 4.3L radiator pill

Anyone work on one of these before.  I'm replacing an waterpump on one.  The procedure for flush and refilling the radiator calls for use of GM sealant pellet #3634621.  From what I've read this is made by BarLeak and consists of ginger and walnut shells.  Is it really crucial that this be used?  The FSM seems to think it's very important when flushing the system and refilling with fresh coolant.  I'm thinking that I'll reuse the coolant if looks alright and is 50/50.  Otherwise, I'll have to go buy some 'dog turds'.

Oh and the pills didn't help seal the leak at the outer bearing seal.  Interesting enough though, it only seeps after you park it.

we didn't use that when we had to put a new radiator / flush the system in my s10 or when we did it on our 97 grand Cherokee. funny thing with the s10 is they must have forgotten to flush the silica sand out of the engine block before filling it up with antifreeze so everything was cotted with the crap so we had to flush it twice  .

Just got done with an intake gasket in mine, switched it over to "real" coolant and did not use any additives. That orange crap eats seals alive and leaves brown slimy crap all over the cooling system.

I've converted a Cav back to glycol before with no problems.

This truck isn't mine and the owner is anal about following the book. (owners manual)  I'm thinking it would be better if I drain what's in it already and then refill it with the old stuff.  After I check it for 50/50 of course.  The conditioner/dog turds seems to be cheap at under $5.  The radiator was replaced years ago at teh Dealer but I still wonder if they added any.  GM seems to jump back and forth on whither it's required or not, now.  I've heard that they stopped using it in cars and trucks in 2000 but may have gone back to it.
