removing windshield reinforcement bars
« on: August 23, 2007, 08:46:20 PM »
Did a search on this here, but no luck.  I have "star" wrenches and allen wrenches.

But don't have the star wrenches with the nub in them like you'd need if you were temporarily taking off the windshield reinforcment bars.  Know any retailers, online stores that typically carry them?  And what size for the reinforcement bars   :puzzled:? Is it like 50mm?

Many thanks!

When you take the 'spreader bars' off leave them in one piece.  I highly recommend unscrewing the T50 on the main hoop.  It's on the back side of the main bar, above where the seatbelt shoulder loop is.  Once that's out then undo the two T40's at the windshield.  When putting them back in do the reverse.  If you take the small torx off, first you'll risk chewing up the head.

Lets say, hypothetically, that one chewed out one of these screwes...  Let's say (hypothetically, of course) that the one chewed out is the one on the driver side that is farthest right (towards the pasanger side).  What would be the best way to get it out to change the windshied frame (because of rusting)?

Of course, this is only a Hypothetical excercise...

Yeah, That's what I was going to do; is there anywhere besides the stealership where I could get the new bolt from?

Anywhere that sells nuts and bolts.  I suggest replacing them with allen head screws.
