YJ lift for 32 inch tires
« on: August 27, 2007, 02:30:52 PM »
I'm looking into ways to fit some 32 inch tires on a YJ with no rubbing and as small a lift as possible.

Is a 2.5" OME lift enough for 32 inch tires?

How about a 2.5" OME lift plus 5" shackles (for a total of 3" of lift)?

Thanks

The OME lift is designed for 32's so it will be fine.  Depending on your wheel offset though, the tires will probably rub the flares if they stick out too far.

Thanks Jeffy.  I'll probably go with 32 X 10.5 Super Swampers so they won't stick out too far.

I am running on 32 x 11.50's with a budget 2" lift.  Have not had any issues at all.  Only thing noticable is the decreased power at highway speeds.  I have a new set of 4.88 gears.  Just need to put them on...

Is this on a Yj?  How did you lift it?  Thanks

Looks like he's got a TJ which has 1-2" more clearance then with a YJ.

Installing TJ fender flares will do a lot for fitting larger tires with less lift.  Requires a little metal trimming, nothing major.

I'd look at a combination of longer shackles, slight body lift, and the TJ flares. I'd remove the track bars (frame to axle rod), add disconnects to the front sway bar, replace shocks, steering stabilizerk, and check the brakes, steering, ds and axle joints.

I'd like to avoid longer shackles and body lifts but what you say is encouraging because it seems it won't take all that much lift to fit the 32s.  Thanks

You can fit 35's with enough chopping.  :uhoh:

Here is an interesting link:  http://www.jpmagazine.com/projectbuild/154_0503_1998_jeep_wrangler_tj_tire_fitting/index.html

Yeah, that ran a few years ago.  It was a freelancer submitted article and not a very good one.

There's an article in JP Magazine (some issues back) about a 35" fitted in a Jeep with no suspension lift (mind you, a lot of trimming was done if I remember correctly!).  There was also another article (I think it was called low slung Jeep or something like that) about a Jeep with very little lift and something like 41" tires fitted.  That one looked REALLY nice!

Yeah, they didn't get any good pictures of the work that was done.
