ya so my starter died 9on my jeep yesterday so we had to push start it twice .... so today i went to change ti out and the two bolts holding it in are these weird inverse torques looking things that a 3/8 socket will fit loosely on but slips when put under pressure... what socket do i need to get these bolts out. thanks for any replies.

You answered your own question, they are reverse Torx.  Do not use a 12-pt socket.  Sears sells reverse Torx among other places.

ok  guess its a trip to sears tomorrow morning then since oreilly doesn't have them..

fyi- those are the same bolts at the top end of the transmission bell. found it out the hard way.

You answered your own question, they are reverse Torx.  Do not use a 12-pt socket.  Sears sells reverse Torx among other places.

Why are you saying not to use a 12pt?  I have always used a metric 12pt, I can't remember what size off the top of my head but it fits and works well, never slipped/wounded the bolts, tightens them up nice, broke them lose the first time I had to pull it all w/o any issues.

then you got lucky. i tried a twelve point when i was dropping the trans and it just stripped! thank god for vise grips!

your probably thinking of a 9mm 12point. we had 10 and 8 mm in 12point and 10 is too big and 8 too small and 3/8 12 point is darn close. why cant jeep just use regular bolts instead of this inverse torques shit and this metric crap also. i know almost all autos are like this now but why???

ok went to sears and got a inverse torques kit so now I'm good to go on weird bolts. and other than striping the head on one of the 2 bolts i got the new starter in... and my jeep still wont start ... i noticed that when i turn my key on i don't here the buzzer for the seat belt or the sound of the fuel system priming. all i here is a pop-click kinda sound( like the sound of a blinker that blinks really slow if you have ever had that happen). but the jeep will start if you push start it... any ideas on what to check/ what went bad? any help is greatly appreciated. we now have 2 of our 3 wrangler style jeeps out of comition and hunting opener is only 2 weeks away.

Sounds like maybe a fuse or relay went bad.

bad battery cable poor connection etc. Get a volt meter and start measuring from the battery on. When you try to start see how far the battery voltage drops if that is ok start measuring across every connection for voltage drop should be no more than about 0.2 volts for every cable connection. If all else fails turn on the headlights and see how badly they sim when you try to start it ( goes back to checking battery voltage and dirty battery clamps/ bad cables

ya my batter cables are pretty bad. i cleaned the terminals a few weeks ago cuz they had allot of corrosion. and the positive cable has some half @$#ed prim connection thing on it... just need to get around to buying new ones at the parts store. darn smoking radio upset the hole wiring situation.

when i got the jeep the seal between the windshield frame and the body was shoot and when it rained water woudl run down the dash( thats what the old owner told me i never drove in the rain tell i fixed it) so it fried the radio in it so he gave me this "working radio" for free. well long story short i get it installed and turn the volume nob and it lets out white nasty smelling electrical smoke. which upsets my wiring cuZ everything in the dash is rusty. but i guess thats what you get for a free jeep....  :wall:wow now I get the joke after i write all this
