Problem with this install...

I installed the Poweraid 310-511 spacer on my 97 TJ 2.5L and I have a problem.  I now have a huge flat spot at full throttle.  It bogs really badly and sometimes back fires.  any ideas as to the problem.  This did not occur before the installation.

Well, I'd first reset the computer and see if that helps.  It takes a whle for the computer to reconize the change.  You might also try to clean up the TB while it's off.  Take off the sensors and clean them.

The 2.5L does not do too well at WOT.  You'll want to state at what RPM this is happening at.  It will bog if the engine is turning too slow although I've never had it backfire.  If the RPM's are up, it shouldn't bog too bad.  Gas mileage will suffer and performance isn't that great though.

The dead spot is there no matter what the rpm's are.  It only backfires at the lower rpm's.  The dead spot was not there before the TBS.  I unhooked the battery for about ten minutes after the install.  It reallr ran like crap the next several times I drove it, but it did get better.

First thing, once you reset the computer you need to drive it for a few hundred miles for it to readjust.  If you think it's the TBS then I'd remove it and make sure it's not happening still.  This will rule out if it's something new.  You should also mention anything else done to the Jeep.  Gearing, tire size and any intake or exhaust mods.  Might be good to know the mileage also.

The other thing that could be causing this is the response time between when you floor it and the engine reacts.  If it's not running at a high RPM and you floor it you can expect it to bog down.  Happens to most engine. This is especially true if you're undergeared and overweight.

This isn't just a hesitation.  It is a true dead spot at full throttle no matter what the RPM's.  The only other mods are a Rock-it air intake tube and filter.  I have 4:10 gears and run 32 inch tires.  I sure do appreciate the help.

Well, if you have WOT at 1000RPM with even a small load, chances are, you're not going anywhere.  You need to allow the engine to come up gradually.  In my Jeep, if I put the metal to the pedal at 1000RPM it'll just be bogged all the way up to redline, the initial flood is enough to hold everything back.  It takes a while for the 2.5L to pick up, speically with 32" tires.  Like Jeff said though, reset your computer, and allow it to readjust itself to the new changes will help a great deal.
