How do you over ride the rev limiter on a 94 Wrangler? Mine (on it's own) just started to come in at 4200 rpm. Not sure what caused it or how to fix it. But is definately the rev limiter.

You sure that's the rev. limiter and not the fuel curve leaning it out?   The factory rev. limiter is supposed to be around 5400RPM.  With a stock fuel system, the engine feels like it's limited to around 4000rpm.

No, it is still pulling strong when it hits 4200, then just starts cutting on and off with the rev limiter. You can have it in neutral at a dead stop and hold the pedal to the floor and when it hits 4200 it starts cutting on and off. I use to have a rev limiter in my drag car so I know how they act.

When your ecm cuts of the fuel at high rpm it acts just like a rev limiter cuts out then in just like you descibed, where as a govenor would keep the rpm steady ie no hunting

You would need to have the PCM flashed then.  Since it's all computer controlled, that's the only way to reset the rev. limiter or speed governor, etc...  Not sure if anyone does them on Pre-OBDII's though.

Could also be a TPS problem, can't imagine the PCM's rev limit setting changing on its own.

It does seem strange that it's doing that at 4000RPM.

I had some fuel system issues that sounded like your symptoms some time back.  When the day was hot, and the engine temp was up, it would feel as if the rev limiter kicked in...  But it was a fuel problem.  I can't tell you exactly which part, because when I took out the fuel rail, there was a mud-like substance there, so I just went ahead and replaced the injectors, the rail, the FPR, fuel filter and fuel pump...  This is my daily driver, so I did not feel like being stranded on a rainy day in the middle of alligator alley!

Thanks for the tips! I will start with the fuel system and see if i find a problem.
