Measure your radiator surface.  The XJ/MJ's have a different area then the Wranglers.  With that info though, it will be easier to find a fan that will work.

Ford Taurus fans are popular, two speeds and are at any junkyard.

His radiator is a lot shorter then those found on YJ's and TJ's.

My old XJ had 2 fans, 1 mechanical and 1 electrical. I've still have the electrical to use someday or even pair up on my TJ.

The electrical would be located on the passenger side. My XJ had ac so that may the difference.

My kids 1990 comanche only has the mechanical, 4.0L - but no AC.  I'm assuming the 2.5L has a lot more room to work with, on a 4.0L it would be pretty tough to fit much of an electric fan where the stock mechanical fan sits.

Yes, the electrical fan was for A/C only.  It's too small to use alone though.

OK, I did some seatching and found this: http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoElectricFan.htm

It mentioned reusing the stock shroud.  The fan opening is only 11" so the bottom 4" of the fan aren't really helping any.  I'd go with a Taurus 15" since it's 1" smaller then the MK8 and the shroud is a lot smaller.

I used one from a junked 2.5 ltr. cavaleer. I first ran it direct wired then I added a remote mount thermostat. The part # I obtaned from a flexalite fan instalation scamatic I down loaded from one of the 4x4 parts places on line catalogs.  I mounted the fan using the cavaleer shroud. Most of the stock mounting locations on the radiator were used and that galvanized mettal tape used to replace muffler mounts was used span the gaps betwean the  stock mounting holes and the ones in the Cavaleer shroud. It took me 2.5 hours. I am not a eletrician or traned mechanic so I went slow and checked and rechecked every thing. It did not take long to figure out the proper ajustment for the temp and I have about 5000 miles with this set up with zero problems, an increas in M.P.G., faster warm up and a little extra HP at the wheels. If you can get a Tarus fan or one with as flat a motor use it. The cavaleer motor is 4in deep and requires it be off set to one side of the water pump pully.
