Topic: oil pressure to high

on my way home from work today my oil pressure jump up to 80lbs of presure.i no this is to much but how do i check it with out using a manual gauge?my jeep usually runs around 50 to 55lbs.is it going to hurt to drive it like that deer hunting is going on right now and dont realy have time to mess with it to long.or could it be my gauge going crazy aany help would be greatly appriciated thanks.

Does it drop back down when you idle?

In any case, I'd highly suspect the oil pressure sender.  It's a cylinder about 3" tall with a plug going to the top of it.  It's located on the engine block in front of the distributor.  If you think it's the sender, you can ignore it then replace it when you get back.  Or just replace it.

When mine went out it would idle fine but would peg if any throttle input was added.  Kinda freaks you out the first time that happens.

Mine is the exact opposite.  When idling it will drop to 0!    Then when the rpms rise a bit it goes back to normal.  Haven't gotten around to replacing it yet but it has been like this through two different motors so that kinda told me something.

That is what mine was doing before I replaced the sender.

mine has been doing the same thing, didn't know that the sender was the culprit.  Thanks, i'll fix mine two.

Mine is doing the same thing now.  It is only 2.5 years old

x2 on the sender. keep the receipt when you get the new one. I've replaced 3 times. mine would read 40psi for a couple of months after I changed it and then start to climb. I suspect the Royal Purple

I tend to doubt it is cause by you Royal Purple Oil, but anything is possible. The oil pressure senders on jeeps for a long list of years in 4.0L, and 2.5L, have never lasted for any model they seem to go through them like candy. I have replaced countless numbers of them on my own vehicles, and friends they seem to have a design flaw. One would think that some brand that makes them would have fixed the problem with them by now, but i have yet to find one that lasts.
Anyone else replaced one and had it last longer then 1 or 2 years ? if so what brand lol

Oil Pressure Senders are cheaply built.  That's why they fail.  I had my original last till around 00' so that's around 8 years.  I swapped mine with one from a '94 YJ and it's still going.

my oil gauge maxed.  replaced teh sending unit and i was back on track.  easy fix.

I'm on my 3rd one. The first went out after about 10K fixed under warranty. The second went out between 30-40K. So far so good on the last one. I keep a spare one and the socket in the Jeep at all times.
