Topic: fuel injector question

sorry about the frequent posts i know it must be getting annoying lol. just want to make sure i cover all my bases.
As some of you know im replacing my engine.  Ive been thinking of replacing my injectors. i did a test to see the spray pattern and they sprayed straight forward, not like an umbrella. ive read some posts on Ford injectors and other types. id like to know what kind to get, are they more expensive and are there complications with changing to the ford or different brand injectors. Instillation issues? Will i need extra components or any type of modification? How about fuel consumption? Again im sorry for all the questions. Thanks

Mine are Bosh 19# injectors that are intended to go into mustangs...  If I remember correctly, they were about $170 with shipping.  You can get used one for a lot less, but in my case, I had already had issues with the fuel pump and the fuel rail, and the last thing I wanted was more problems with the fuel system!

I used Ford injectors from a mid '90s Crown Vic with a v8.  They plug right in and have a 4port nozzle instead of the jeeps single port.  Jeep ran a lot smoother after the swap, dunno why.  Mine were $5 each.

thanks for the posts guys. to clarify though, these ford injectors-especially the crown vic ones, these are just plug and play? anything to consider such as too much/too little fuel spray? any adjustments to make? im asking all this because im certainly dont want to screw anything up in the new engine. By the way, this is a 98tj 2.5 we're talkin about, dont know if that makes any difference

Crown Vic are wrong for your Jeep.  Read the thread that jfrabat gave.

oh ok, i see it. thanks, lots of info in that thread. pretty much all i need.  by the way i do have one final question, i pulled the fuel rail back and sprayed the injectors to see if i could observe the spray pattern. i didnt get the "umbrella/mist" spray pattern ive read is supposed to occur, rather they sprayed strong and directly forward like a water gun. any ideas why???

You can send 'em 8 injectors and have them cleaned and flow tested.  Then use the 4 that flow the closest to each other.

The more "mist" you get form the injectors, the best combustion you will get.  If you get a "squirt", the explosion will be less violent and will take longer to burn (meaning less power).  I would look for a new set of injectors...

would it be safe to say that the "straight squirt-watergun like squirt" im getting rather than an umbrella mist is due to bad injectors rather than a dieing fuel system ie pump, filter etc?? i have a new injector in the box, i should prob just hook it up and see if it sprays right.  also, a straight squirt would make me run lean as well right?
