XJ question

The wife has an 1993 XJ with an automatic tranny.  It has the full length console.  What I need to do is get rid of the whole console and move the E brake off the transmission hump.  She'll be starting a US postal job and needs to be able to drive from the other side/middle of vehicle.  I looked at another XJ a couple of years ago and it didn't have the full length console but I can't remember how the shifters were.  Any advise or a pic of one without the console would be helpfull.  I have about two weeks to get her XJ ready.

I think the e-brake shifter on all XJs where in the middle.  There might be a way to move it somwhere else if you fab something up.  I'll see if I can dig up a picture of a postal cherokee...

You want the shifter console and ebrake assembly out of a commanche.   Commanches have a foot ebrake.  Some comanches use the full XJ console and some have a shorter center console.

Why does the e-brake need to be moved and what does her job have to do with her personal vehicle?  WOn't the post office supply her with a RHD vehicle?

Most RHD vehicles use a center mounted e-brake.  Even when they switch the dash the e-brake is never changed.  This is why Jeep switched to the center mounted lever on the TJ.  It's a cost thing.

Most rural mail carriers use their own vehicle.

Yep the police cherokees did too, and they had the high idle switch for when they where parked with the overheads going to help keep the battery charged.

Thank you all for the info.  I never thought about an MJ, we used to have one 1991 model.  If I remember right its shift console and e-brake set up would be just about perfect and have factory parts to boot.  This weekend I see if the Jeep salvage place in OKC has what I need.
