Are your headlights always on?
« on: March 20, 2008, 10:31:35 PM »
So I have a problem with my headlights always being on. When I start the jeep they're not on, but as soon as I move about a foot, they go on. I still have my normal driving lights and my brights, so there's 3 levels of brightness. I think its somethin the guy before me did cause I noticed a couple hack things that were done to the jeep. But I want to know if anyone else has this situation, or if they might now why its doin this (how the guy might have wired it). I mean its not that big of deal but for some reason lately its really been bothering me and I would like to fix it. Thx

Those would be DRL's (Daytime Running Lights) every Canadian model has them but I can not remember from what year on, if they bug you the module is on the drivers side inner-fender under the air cleaner mount just un-plug it, I did.

If it's a Canadian model then it will have them as far back as 91/92, I think.  I know it's listed in my '91 FSM.  The US never required DRL till 1997.

So now the U.S. requires DRL's? Thats weird cause I havent seen any that I can remember.

They are permitted in the US, they have never been required in the US - in fact they were illegal until 1995.

Which seemed really strange since motorcycles have been wired to be on all the time since 1976.  When cars were first coming out with them, everyone noticed them and you'd get flashed by others thinking you left your lights on.  Now that everyone has them you only really notice those who don't.  I think motorcycles are at a disadvantage because of this as well.
