Yeah so on my way to work this morning I felt a vibration that felt like a flat tire. It was
dark when I got out to check and I went around the Jeep and didn't see any flat tire
So I headed to the nearest convenience store with a well lit parking lot. The vibration was
bad and really felt like a flat tire, but when I parked and crawled under the Jeep I didn't see
anything
I was looking for tangled lines or debris caught around the tires or
shafts, but I couldn't find anything. I decided to go to work and figure it out after work. I
got back on the highway and a few miles later the vibration got worse and I felt my Jeep
drop down a few inches going down the road
I coasted into the e-lane and got out one more time
looking for what happened. I couldn't find anything at first, but then I noticed that my
driver’s side rear tire was leaning in. I had lost all five lug nuts and the wheel had slid off
the studs and the drum had dropped down onto the inside of the wheel!
Thank God the wheel did not completely separate from the Jeep!
I did not have a good jack and did not want to crawl under a Jeep precariously balanced
like that. I had my wife drop me off at work and she picked up a shop jack and some lug
nuts for me. At lunch we went out to examine the carnage, but the studs weren't tore up
too bad. The holes in the wheels were wallowed out a little, but I was able to get four lug
nuts on it and plan to get five new studs pressed in. I'm just thankful it wasn't worse!
