I am looking into putting an electric fan on my jeep for my turbo set up and to free up some power till then, i found a 14" slim fan for 55 bucks shipped it pushes 1800 cfm is that sufficent to cool my little 4 banger?

Kind of expensive for a 14" fan.  I'd highly recommend a FoMoCo Taurus V6 16" or Lincoln MKVIII 4.8L MK18".  Pulls enough air to be used with a V8.

Some of those generic fans out there are poorly made as well.

Jeffy, you forgot to mention that they are also cheaper than the $55 they are asking him (mine was $28).  And even in low speed, they pull enough air to cool down my 4-banger (to the point where the Thermostat needs to close every now and then!).

What are the major benefits of the electric fan? And what will work in a 97 TJ and how hard are they to install and what other mods if any are needed!

Benefits?  Less parasitic drag since the fan isn't powered by the engine.  Engine will rev quicker because of this.  Maybe 5HP at the top end.

Not that big of a deal to install.

The Taurus fan from most mid '90s 3.8L Ford cars is a nice 2-speed fan that fits the Wrangler radiators very well.  I was able to use the 4 stock shroud holes to mount mine, one hole used a stock hole in the fan housing, drilled another hole in the fan housing below that, and used 2 small L brackets to mount the other side.  Fit my radiator perfect but for a 1.5" gap at the bottom of the radiator, which is better to allow mud and water through the radiator.

         I did not know about the Ford fan mod at the time I did mine. I went with the Flex-a-lite fan it is a little expensive. The fan kit comes with fan, mounting brackets, wiring, fuse, and power steering relocation bracket. It took maybe a hour to install. It also has a thermostat control knob, so it can be adjusted to let the Jeep run warmer in winter and cooler in summer. The advantage to any electric fan is more power but also you get better cooling in heavy traffic, (Indianapolis traffic sucks) and for slow moving trail rides, rock crawling, or running sand dunes. You can set it up either way...

I just got me a FoMoCo the other weekend, and the high speed on that thing def pulls some air through.  I payed $25 I think at the u pull it yard for mine, but I am going to need to upgrade my alternator cause even on low with the lights and everything else on its whining now

Not unless you want to wire it that way.  Personally, I have mine turn off when the key is off.  No reason to have my battery drain more then necessary.

Personally, I have mine turn off when the key is off.  No reason to have my battery drain more then necessary.

I did the same thing; no sense cooling the radiator if the engine is gonna stay hot anyway (the water pump is not turning when the engine is off)!.

I bought the same fan, haven´t installed it yet. Did you had any problems with the amount of amps it pulls using the stock alternator?

    I have had zero problems with the fan. I dont know how many amps it pulls but I drive alot at night and have never had a problem.  I am running the stock alternator. The fan has been on my jeep for about three years now. I also have it wired so it runs after the Jeep is shut off. If someone gets under my hood , say at a mall parking lot, on a warm day they may very well lose a hand.  :nono: :nono:
