Hi guys.  I'm new here so go easy, please.  I posted this in the intro forum as well.

Basically got a jeep for my son and was doing some upkeep on it.  I am new to jeeps but not to fixing rigs.  Here is the specs.

92 wrangler 2.5 liter.

Changed last night:  plugs, rotor, distributor cap, wires, coil, brake pads and rotors

I also converted to the 4.0 throttle body and installed an electrical fan.  Here is where I run into my problem.

I was looking for an ignition hot and found one.  It is an unused plug on the firewall that has a red and black wire in it.  I cut the damn thing without removing the battery and it sparked and I think it blew something!!!  Now the car won't start.  I spray starter fluid down the throttle body thinking it was that but no spark now.  I tried to arc the coil to the block to see if spark exists and nothing.  I am tracing the wires but I think a relay blew or worse i fried the 'puter.  Help me out here fellas, this is a gift to my son from his uncle.  Would be nice if it is running.

wanted to add a little bit more info that I just found.  No inside lights, like the ones just over the steering wheel, and none of the gauges are working.  At least the voltage gauge and gas gauge aren't working.  Can't get it started to see if the tach works or not.  Headlights still work and it will crank over no problem.  I really think I blew a relay or a fusable link or something.  Help HELP HELP HELP :brick:

Hmmm, so you cut into BOTH wires at the same time huh?

I'm guessing you checked the fuse panel under the dash?  How about the one next to the battery?  It's in a 10"x4" black rectangular box.  The top pulls off and there are some rather large fuses as well as some smaller ones and some relays.  Check those fuses as well.

The problem with using an unused plug is that you don't know what it's for.  Either it's for an unknown accessory like A/C or it's for diagnostic.

As for the fan, wire it directly to the battery.  Using preexisting harness may seem like a good idea but the wires are usually small gauge and not large enough to handle high amp draw.  This could lead to melted wires, shorting out or even a fire.

The only no start problem I had was a bad crank position sensor. Sometimes it would hit and miss and then it just craped out. Almost pulled my hair out with schematics and troubleshooting. A buddy sugested a new C.P.S. I spent 20 bucks at napa pulled two bolts and one plug out swaped it and she fired rite up. The sensor is located on the front of your tranny rite at the top left hand bolt. Where it bolts to the block. Give it a shot its a cheep try. With no dash lights I would look at your wiring diagram in the back of your chilltonr epair book and see what you see. Make sure all of your fuses are good. test them with a light and give them a visual look over. Look for charded or melted wires. Start where you cliped the wire and follow it back untill it meets something else. Just retrace your steps. You can fix it! Don't give up!

I'm with Jeffy.  It sounds like one of the under hood fuses or relays.  Keep us posted!

First off I appreciate everyone's input on helping me figure out what the heck happened.  Now onto what it ended up being.

when I cut the wires I heard a pop and ASSUMED a fuse had blown so i had my buddy, who doesn't know the difference between a screwdriver and a wrench, pull each fuse and check them for being blown.  I told him to take one fuse out at a time and replace it back into the same spot it came out of.

Well i couldn't figure it out that day so I slept on it overnight.  I knew I didn't do anything wrong other than probably blow a fuse so i started there the next morning.  Well what do I find except that there isn't a fuse in the "ignition" spot of the fuse block.  Thinking this odd I put one in and cranked her over.  It was amazing, it started.

Moral to the Story:  Don't let a non-mechanically inclined person ever do anything on a vehicle without direct adult supervision.
