JeepCam
« on: July 01, 2008, 09:26:38 AM »
My sister bought one of these for the kids at Christmas....I immediately absconded it for my own personal use.

Just mounted to the top of my rear control arm so I can have a perfect view of my passenger spring in action to see if I am actually bottoming out the shock...then JCR will have to extend the bump stops and replace the shock for me.

Going to try out on runs as well....winch view...top view...side mirror view...will just use the included velcro straps or zip ties to mount in various spots when there is some decent action.:thumb:

Will post up my first vid as soon as the batteries charge and I can go over to the school and hit a speed bump.

Well, first test run didn't show me what I wanted to see, but now I know where I can mount and how close I can get to see what I want.  Still, pretty kewl and worked like a charm.

Here is the first vid:

Here's a better vid of it shot from behind after I rigged it to mount below my bummper....drove over some curbs...hit the bottom of a hill around the corner from my house pretty hard...

Can you mount it in front of the rear axle so it has a longer shot of the front axle and not looking directly into the axle itself?  How about hanging it off the side looking towards the front tire?

I was surprised at how difficult it was to find a mounting place since I am basically zipping it or velcroing it under the jeep.

I need a fancy ball joint/bar system like they use on t.v. shows so I can mount in a couple of areas but still place the camera where I want it to be or face.

RAM mounts are probably your answer.

Very cool toy.

And like Jeffy said RAM has a buch of good ball/socket mounts, especially if it has a threaded tripod mount like regular cameras.

It doesn't...it has the bicycle mount...I've been using the flat plastic mount shown with the rubber strap in the pic in the first post) with the velcro straps.  The camera slides into the flat mount and locks (like a typical GPS mount).

Is there a way to wire it so you can view it live in-the-cab?
That would be pretty cool while doing some slow rock crawling

Some people actually use a setup like that with 4 cameras and one screen makes it easy to 4wheel without a spotter. The Toyota crowd just loves dodad and gadgets, to me simple and light is the way to go

It'd be useless where we wheel. 3 minutes in and the lens would be plastered in mud.

There is a video out line, but I think that is only so you can view saved movies directly on a tv.

I guy in my club runs two cameras on the ends of his front bumper for spotting.  I don't think I would ever need that for climbing curbs around my neighborhood. :weee:
