Connections on Intake Manifold and Fuel Rail missing Hoses
« on: July 13, 2008, 02:53:01 PM »
I wanted to put this thread in the general Wrangler catergory since the 2.5 4Banger is in some YJs and TJs from '91-'02 (or '03).

Maybe you guys who own a 2.5 4banger can help me out.  I have a couple of hose connections -  one on the intake manifold, the second on the fuel rail -- that are missing their hoses.  Not only that, but even if I had the hoses I wouldn't know where to connect said hose to.

I've already done some homework on this, bought a new Chiltons for 87-95 YJs -- diagrams are ok, but are not adding up to an answer for me, combed Google.  Looked through most of the other Jeep sites. No luck.

Here are the photos  (backwards; my camera phone is f'ed up)

So someone removed the line? It goes from the manifold to the fuel pressure regulator.  The hose comes as a set with the CCV hose and is around $30.  I might have mine still floating around in a box.  I replaced my CCV hose last year.

Hi Jeffy.  Yeah I have the line -- it's not much bigger than the diameter of a coat-hanger wire -- that went in to the that rubber fitting on the fuel rail.  But, I see no place to connect the other end of it

Then with the intake manifold connection, I simply don't have a hose for it -- without realizing it I must have nudged it off when I removed and reinstalled the intake; or maybe it hasn't been there for some time.  I don't know what that intake manifold connection connects to by hose.

Based on the charts in the Chiltons its appearing as though the hose from the intake manifold connection is supposed to attah to the evaporative canister.  But I already have a hose attached there that runs to the intake tube.  You're saying the fuel pressure regulator -- or are you talking about the other line that I do have?

My Jeep is not running all that bad, so I didn't have cause to check until recently

i think he is trying to say is that you have 2 connections that are open, and 1 hose. and that hose connects the 2 openings. aka the line goes from the fuel rail to the intake manifold.

Ahhh.  Then maybe what I am missing is a rubber end piece that will size up the thin fuel rail tube that I do have so that it will fit snuggly on the intake manifold connection that is currently open.  That it you think?

The connections you you have open are for the fuel rail pressure.  One end runs to the regulator while the other end runs to the manifold.  The hose is small, maybe 1/8" and has two fat rubber connectors on the ends.

I fixed all that up this evening.  My thanks to Jeffy and ChardRC.  Basically those 90 degree rubber connections had turned to brittle crap so they weren't holding anything.  I had the hose, replaced both caps and also got a new connector for the evap canister.  Jp is running nice now -- of course the engine is only working on 4:10s and 29s -- but still nice.
