Oil pressure
« on: July 21, 2008, 09:55:08 AM »
What is the standard oil pressure for the YJ?  Mine is reading about 60 on the dash, but I am not sure if that is normal or too high...

Also, since I am already asking about oil, I have noticed that I have a very small leak of oil around the valve cover.  Could it possible be the seal of the valve cover?  Or is there any comon place where leaks appear around this area?  It is staining the thermostat housing and other parts around there, and it seems it is slightly hitting the belt, as there is a splash pattern around the belt area in the radiator hoses and hood...

On start-up, mine is going all the way up to 80, and it goes down to 60 after it gets warm.  If I remember correctly, it used to start at 60 and drop to 40 before I did the oil change this weekend (I noticed it after the oil change; not sure if I was having problems a couple of days before).

Should I be concerned about this?

Mine on startup is about 50-55 then drops down to 25 after it warms up and runs about 50 I think while driving

i stay right around 55 or so. the valve cover gasket is really easy and only about $8.00 at your local auto store. put some rtv on the valve cover and them lay the gasket. seems to hold the gasket on pretty well so it doesnt shift when throwing the valve cover back in place.

I think I'll try that; I had a heck of a time putting the cover back on last time (when I changed the rockers) without the gasket coming out of place...  I'll throw in a new gasket just to be sure it is up to par as well.

Any suggestions on a degreaser for cleaning the engine (the outside) up?
