2.5 neeeewb

well, let me introduce myself first. my name is levi,and im from ohio, and i have owned MANY jeeps, but this is my first jeep with a 4cylinder. my jeeps is a 95 yj with a 5 speed and with the following mods

soa
rough country 4 inch
lock rite rear locker
33x10.5x15's

i love everything about it accept the weak engine. id liek to work on this one though and have a good running 4 cylinder. i just did a tune up with all stock equipment. what can i do to step up the power? perhaps in stages? what would be the best things in 3 stages? ill go ahead and assume stage 3 is a turbo set up, but in this first stage of bolt ons and minor mods, what can i do to help liven up this little turd. also, whats a good electric fan to get ahold of? thanks much!

Welcome.

How is it possible you have SOA and a 4" spring lift?  That's almost 10" of lift, you would be lucky to get a rear driveshaft to work at the extreme angles needed.  Tell us more, pics if you have them.

OH CRAP! hahaha. where is the edit button. sorry, not SOA, i have no idea what i was thinking. i meant SHACKLE REVERSAL. haha. not even close. wow, im sorry guys. thanks for the fan link.

and didnt cheap jeep on xtreme 4x4 have a SOA on 4 inch springs?

First, I would not build anything as I see in Xtreme 4X4; I have seen them do many wrong things in the past, and they have unlimited budgets for most of their projects.  Having said that, I have seen a Jeep with 4" lift and SOA, but I would not recommend it.  It is simply TOO TALL.  This makes the jeep very unstable.  The most I would go would be 2" lift with SOA, and lots of triming (including flat fenders), and maybe even a 1" BL (I'd never go higher on a BL).  That should allow you to fit at least a 37" tire, most likely more, while keeping the Jeep as close to the ground as possible (this makes the CG lower, reducing the risk of a roll-over).  but that's just me, the guy whose final goal is to put 33" tires on his rig...  Then again, 33's and good driving can get you through most of the trails out there!

well, like ive alwasy said, to each his own.

now, for the itty gritty. i did the fuel tank mod. took all of about 10 minutes with 2 trips to the garage because i was to lazy to pul lthe jeep around back and just worked in the street. haha. im going to do the 4.0l throttle body, new exhaust with a header possibly, new injectors, air-aid TBS, home made PVC intake with a K&N, and some ignition work and larger plus gap. that being said, i have some questions:

if i got to advanced what do i need to buy?
what year and model injectors?
what 02 sensor should i get? where to i get a wide band if i need one?
what are some good ignition upgrades i can get that will bolt it?

also, my jeep will idles high, about 1500rpm's and if i let it sit for about 45 second to a minute and not touch that gas, then its will settle at about 800rpms's. but if i barely touch the throttle, roooom, right back to 1500. what do i need to do so when im coasting up to a stop sign, or stop light, by the time i get there, it has setteled down? thanks everyone for the help! this site is great.

try cleaning ur iac ..... 

get some 19lb injectors...  search on here to find what fords u can pull them out of...i believe jeffy had a good write up on them.  for the ignition go with firepower coil and wires

Depends on what you have...  From what you plan to change, not much; I would make sure that I have a good torque wrench (or 2), a socket set (including tamper proof torx, which you will need for the TB swap), and standard tools.

what year and model injectors?

Check on the FAQ; all you need to know about injectors is there...

what are some good ignition upgrades i can get that will bolt it?

Performance Distributors has some nice packages; Screaming Demon and LiveWires are a good combo (easier to just get their kit; it includes the rotor and cap).  I have everything but the screaming demon (my rig already had an Accel Hi Performance Coil).

Mine does this as well; in my experience, the best thing you can do is get used to it... :biggrin:

i read the FAQ section on injectors, but the part numbers wont show up in our advanced auto part scomputer. i need the vehicle specifically. also, i have plenty of tools. this isnt my first jeep. when i asked what to buy at advanced, i meants PARTS wise, not tools wise.  what is the donor vehicle for the 19lb injectors? thanks guys.

I think its a mustang thought it was in the FAQ's though.  Also your most likely better off getting them out of a junk yard or online used somewhere.

Also don't know if its been mentioned but gears are a good improvement.

Yes, they are from the Mustang (at least for the YJ; do TJ's use the same?) and they are cheaper online (like JCSanders said).

Gears is the most noticeable change, but it tends to be the most expensive as well...  Well, maybe less so than a Turbo or an engine swap, but I am not sure how much those go for.

whats a good starting parts list to do a turbo install? ive read the write up, but a parts list would be a huge help. what year 5.0 do i get the injectors from? will any year 4.0L throttle body work? should i install an FMU now, since ill need one with the turbo anyways?

'91-'04 throttle body will work, you'll need to cap the vacuum port for the MAP sensor if it's a '96+ throttle body.

I have 62mm performance throttle bodies available if interested, 7mm larger than the 4.0L and no taper beneath the throttle plate = quicker throttle response.

For my '95 YJ I used injectors from a mid '90s Ford Crown Victoria v8, well I used half of them.
