2.5 Throttle body pics please!
« on: October 02, 2008, 12:36:18 PM »
Guys my jeep idles at a crisp 2k rpm. I'm trying desperately to figure out what a stock 2.5 tb looks like installed. Before I go wasting time degreasing and all that jazz, I want to know that mine is the same as everybody else's. I mean mine has some pretty strange looking spring contraption on it that I'm sure isn't from Detroit and I think it doesn't end there. Bottom line I think mine has been tampered with beyond the point of no return and I want something to compare it to as I'm trying to decide whether to just tear it down and spit shine it or look for the 4.0L. Any pics you have would be great!

yeah that's what i saw but i can't seem to find one where they're installed in the jeep. The haynes manual i have doesn't show pics of a 2.5l throttle body and with no other 2.5s nearby i have no basis for comparison as to what it is supposed to look like installed in a jeep.

The 4.0L TB looks exactly like the 2.5L TB except for the marking on the AIS housing and the inner bore of the TB throat.

Here's the 2.5L TB mounted.

Sounds like the IAC is malfunctioning, or the throttle plate stuck open, or a vacuum leak.

Take the TB off, clean everything, and get familiar with it.  Very easy to maintain.

Some folks forget to use the 2.5 liter IAC with the 4.0 liter TB.  The IAC for the 4.0 lets more air past the throttle plate, so you must use a 2.5 IAC on a 2.5 engine even if you're running the 4.0 TB.  If you do change the IAC, you'll need a tamper proof Torx bit, and be careful not to damage the IAC gasket (another possible problem).
