BFG MT KM or MK2?
« on: October 10, 2008, 03:01:37 PM »
So, I was doing a bit of daydreaming today, and was window shopping for new shoes for the rig (or is it e-shopping?) when I noticed that BFG has started making the KM2's in 33X12.50 R15.  I had already made up my mind that when I changed tires, I would go with the BFG MT's, but now I would like to know from some of you that may have tried both how different are they.  I am mostly interested in road manners (noise and wear) and mud handling abilities (self-cleaning and traction).  Any comments (or recommendations)?

When I started looking at tires I looked at Super Swampers and then decided to go with the BFG KMs due to the reportedly better road manners.  Since then a few local jeepers have gotten Super Swampers and get around just fine on the pavement.  Maybe the ride is rougher or whatever but they aren't complaining.  Based on that I would say "How bad can the KM2s be?"  My guess would be they are better that Super Swampers on road and since they have stronger sidewalls than the KMs they are a hands down winner.  Other than a possible cost difference I don't see any reason to run KMs instead of KM2s at this time.  I wish I had some due to the better sidewalls.

I work for BFG and we make the first gen BFG MT and now the KM2s at our plant.  I have to say I love the look of the KM2s.  They look like a mini krawler.  I've heard good things about them, better sidewall strength, quiter on the road.  September 8th, 2008 we started making them in more sizes.

I work for BFG...

Ah, so how do we arrange for you to send me a "sample" set of BFG MT KM2 in 33X12.5R16?  :weee:

I've heard good things about them, better sidewall strength, quiter on the road.

I did not know they were also quieter, but that is another point for the KM2s...  I think I'll go with these once I do decide to change my ride's shoes.  Thanks!

Go km's stronger sidewalls, both make a good mud tire but the km will not gedt a hole in the side as easy

I thought the KM2 had the better sidewall...

The KM2's are BFG's answer to the GY MT/R's.  They still pretty expensive though.  If they were cheaper then MTR's I'd probably run them.  Really though, unless you're wheeling your Jeep a lot, they are a bit overkil.

Unless they look like those, you don't have them.   ;)

Is there a KM2?

I'll have to say that it's highly unlikely you have KM2's since they haven't been available in a 15" wheel size until recently.  You'll be paying +$40 for them over the KM's.

Here's a standard KM
