Hi All,
I'm Scott, an old newbie.
I've done some stuff to my '95 Wrangler (2.5/AX-5/4:10/3-4" lift/31X10.50) and wanted to share the results.
Amsoil in the transmission. What an improvement! I'm now an Amsoil fan for life. Even though the PO had recently replaced the transmission, it shifted hard when cold, and wasn't all that smooth when warm. The new oil makes it shift better when cold than it used to when warm, and when it's warm it shifts like a dream.
4.0 Throttle Body. This made a very noticeable improvement. I timed my Jeep doing "max roll on's" from 40 to 50 mph in 4th gear on the same stretch of road, same starting point, several times with a stop watch before and after I installed the TB. I averaged the before and after times and got a 42% average improvement on the stop watch. Seat of the pants felt like maybe 20-25%, but still very noticeable and gratifying.
High output coil from "ctperformance" on eBay (only $25 plus shipping), Bosch Platinum 2's, and new Autolite standard (I know I know) ignition wires. Seat of the pants, this made as much difference as the bigger TB did, or close. I didn't do any time trials, but the difference in smoothness and "felt" torque is night and day. Lugging the engine, it's as good in one higher gear in situations that used to require one lower gear. Take offs are much improved. I wish I had done this first. The Jeep ran pretty good from the start, but I suspected there was room for improvement, but not as much as I actually got. This is the best single improvement in all around driveability that I've made so far.
In spite of the contoversy about TB Spacers, I'm going to try that next ($41 plus shipping on eBay) and decide for myself. I'll do the stop watch routine on this one. I also bought some used Gen III 19# injectors off eBay (8 injectors for $30 plus shipping) and will try those at some point in the future, after I cough up for an inline fuel pressure gauge and adjustable pressure regulator.
I cut the ears off the distributor to see if I could get an improvement by having more advance. Some say the computer doesn't let this work, we'll see. It runs so sweet I may not even experiment with this (ya right!).
Thanks to all of you who have done write ups on these mods and shared your ideas, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't be such a happy camper right now!
Scott
