2.4L parts
« on: December 08, 2008, 05:44:31 PM »
For the last year or so I have been trying to find anywhere (other than stealership) that sells either OEM or after market parts for the 2.4L engine or drivetrain.   I use my jeep as a delivery vehicle, daily driver, runner over of stray cats etc.,  and it is taking a beating!   I take care of it as much as possible with oil changes, just had water pump and timing belt changed, serpentine, spark plugs and front axle U's and rear drive shaft U's replaced.   However, I think I have a bad input shaft bearing as well as some sort of leak cuz I keep seeing fluid running along the bottom of my transmission.   I would like to just get a new one but finding an NV1500 anywhere is like trying to find Jimmy Hoffa.

Also, the engine has BARELY anything available to mod it with.   Aside from intakes and maybe one type of TB spacer.....bout it.    It's ok tho cuz I might swap it out once it kicks the bucket...its on 101K right now and its only a 2004...I just drive it a lot.   All of my fluids are synthetic except for the front diff since I only use it occasionaly (bad snow or mud.....the trails I go on I can normaly handle in 2 wheel and dont do much more cuz im bone stock).

aside from PT and Neon sites....does anyone own a 2.4 that they have modded or know where to find parts for?

The reason why so few Jeep specific parts are available for the 2.4L is because it was a band-aid engine.  They just needed the engine to fill in the gap between the 2004 and the end of production in 2006.  The good thing is the engine shares common parts with the Neon and PT Cruiser as well as the Minivans.  But still, even those parts are small in numbers.   Most are for the more common 2.2L.

Really though proper gearing goes a huge way in improving things specially when you have increased tire size.

Check www.car-part.com for salvage parts.

Yes, I feel like less of a man with the neon engine in a Jeep :'(  ha ha.    thanks for the link.  I'll check it out.   I think I will eventualy do a swap out however......no car engine for this guy.    I had a '94 YJ before this one with the 4.0 and 31's but saw a TJ in my price range.    I had never seen a 2.5L engine (I knew it was a 4 banger) so thought that had one in it.   SHoulda done some homework before buying it.    Atleast everything else is jeep.

I have an 05' 2.4L and i have found a chip by Jet and a throttle body spacer by helix. I think the site i ordered from was hubcapsplus.com. I know that some people say spacers don't work. My brother has the same jeep, different color and his is half doors, They do work. I have 100k on mine and it still runs strong, and i always pull loads to the ranch and what not. The other thing, if you can stand it, dump the exhaust. Mine exhaust bolts broke and i gain hp but lost torque. so i started slower and cruised higher. but i fixed it because i went on a road trip and well we know how annoying neons are with dumped exhaust. The girlfriend also convienced me. With the loss of something if i didn't fix it. so you can guess how that went.
