Hi idle & red header
« on: December 02, 2005, 05:29:26 PM »
I just rebuilt my 2.5 L in my 94 yj.  Used a  mopar 248* .440 lift cam and banks torque tube header. After installing I now get an idle at 1300-1500rpm even after coolant temp reaches 210*, also header and down pipe glow after about 5 minutes or less. I have checked and retorqued all manifold bolts as well as removed and cleaned the TB and AIS. Even sprayed brakeKleen around the intake and TB after cold start but before header got too hot to check for intake leaks but found nothing! Do you think it's possible that the computer just has not responded to the new conditions yet? the battery was disconnected for about 2 weeks. Other than the above problems the engine starts and runs great, good throttle response no leaks, etc. So what do you think?
 Thanks

You probably have a vacuum leak at the intake where it touches the head.

As for a glowing header, that's common.

I checked for a leak at the intake and TB by spraying brakekleen if there was a leak wouldn't the rpm raise when it picked up the cleaner? also I understand that its common for the header to have a slight glow near the head but this glowed all the way down the pipe to the skid just before the cat and bright enough give some light on the ground

Did you break in the cam properly?
