Wife's Christmas gift
« on: December 21, 2008, 08:34:56 AM »
Thought I'd post a picture of the gift I picked up yesterday for the wife.
It's a 2003 TJ, right hand drive postal spec, I6, 4auto, D-44 rear with track-lock, 3.73 gears.
She run one of the postal routes part time, hoping for full time.  I drove it back 300 miles last night and it runs excellent.  Gas mileage is not the greatest, I thought it would of gotten about what her XJ with the same motor and trany did but its closer to my YJ.  Maybe it'll get better we were fighting a pretty good wind.  It IS a bit different driving on the other side but not bad.  She's already told my no lift or other mods go on it.  She wants to keep it stock unless it is an upgraded part that doesn't change anything.  I do have to put a receiver hitch on it and build a rear light bar that will go in it for her caution lights.  Also driving/fog lights and some type of grill guard will probably round out all I'll get away with.
We hope everyone has a very merry Jeep filled Christmas,
JR

Cool buy.

If you could, shoot some pics of the engine bay, front axle, suspension, tcase output, etc. I wonder how difficult it would be to turn a left hand drive to a right hand drive?

TJ's were specifically designed to be modular.  Same goes for the late model XJ's.  They made just about everything symmetrical.  The real problem would be getting parts.  IIRC, the axle and suspension are the same on both.

Eh, goes for all model XJ's... when I pulled the engine, it had the same holes for steering box, track bar mount, engine mounts, etc on both sides.

Only difference on the axles are track bar mounts, the tie rod/drag link are opposite ours too, but mount the same. I've seen some rigs use RHD tie rods with a tie rod flip on LHD's, I think it turns out looking more like YJ steering?

Yeah, cool to see a RHD in the 'states anyways! What a nice husband you are, haha.

There's a RHD JK that rides around in my area along with a few TJ's. I did a double take the first time I drove past the guy in the JK.  ???

Could be. I do see him quite often though and IIRC their were two RHD JK's on a local lot not to long ago. Oh wait... come to think of it, I think it's an Unlimited. Real nice color too. Red Rock Crystal Pearl.
