Topic: what temp for elec fan control?

i saw another thread on elec. fan (dont want to jack it).  i have a 93 lincoln markVIII fan.  the question is, what temp do I activate and de-activate?

Most common sensors i believe are meant for CARB motors, not MPI and turn on at 180,off170.  Since I have 95, i believe my thermostat opens at 195. 

right now, I plan on getting the adjustable type - stick sensor in radiator fin type sensor switch -- not the 180. 

Wouldnt I want my fan to only run AFTER the thermostat is open?  why do some want to run fan at 180?

If it's a probe you strap to the radiator fins then when it reads 180, your engine is probably running hotter.

ok, one more qyuestion, probe location,  up high on passenger side of radiator or down low on driver side of Radiator?   :)

The fan will never turn on if you put it on the output hose (lower tank).  It must be as close to the input hose(upper tank) as possible.

I put mine inside the upper hose.

The instructions on my Delta Current Controller indicated that you should place the sensor as close to the OUTPUT of the radiator as possible; but it could just be for that application...

im confused abuot the DCC controller.  on the website i have NO idea which one to get - if i were.  they are in england right?

do i still need a bosch style relay?  i am looking at many options.  does the DCC controller have temp sensor/switch?




like i asked before.  if the fan activates at 180 actually, it will activate before the thermostat does, that is my fear, that is why i leaned to the adjustable because no matter where the sensor is, i can change the temp switch to turn on AFTER the thermo,

i just dont have enough exeperience.

cars and trucks with oem elec fans come on at 212 and go off at 190 fuel inj. engine run hotter the carb engine. I have watched on a scan tool on all makes and models of cars and trucks suvs . don't know if this helps or not good luck

Not unless you want a plan B (I did, but I dont use it)

Not necesarilly; the 180* temp is AFTER the coolant has passed through the radiator, whereas the 195* thermostat is BEFORE going through the radiator...  But you can adjust to many different temps using jumpers.

#2.  I thought about the TEMP in Radiator this morning on ride to work - and yes, the thermostat is closed, so it wont matter what temp the fan is set, it wont begin operation until long after thermo is open because there is no flow once engine starts (DUH) :)

#3.  I had thought MPI engines did run hotter than carb - so - thanks for that bit of info on normal operation of fans.  Major thread help here everyone.  Thanks so far.

The biggest deal with the 195 degree t-stat is that your engine runs more efficently at that temp and thus better gas mileage. OEM designed everything in your electronics to perform it's best at this temp.    I'll get off the soapbox cause no one really cares.

Also, because the temp set in the DCC is read from the DOWNSTREAM part of the radiator (see instructions below), the temperature will always be significantly lower than the temperature in the engine (as the coolant will already be cooled by the radiator).
