Which injectors?
« on: January 03, 2009, 10:21:22 AM »
Okay, I'm looking at getting a set of new fuel injectors for my rig.
I'm running a '92 YJ w/2.5&AX15.
Which injectors am I looking for?
I did read the FAQ, but maybe I'm thick because it didn't answer my questions.
Do I need to install 17# like the factory? Or should I up the flow to 19#?
Is the design III the best to use from Ford? If so, what years of the Explorers used them?
Thanks!

I run a '95 yj YJ and used injectors from a mid '90s Crown Victoria v8.

Sorry to Hijack the thread !!!

I'm not familiar with what size they run.
Is it 19# or 24# ford injectors?  I know the
19# injectors are orange but what are the 24#
injectors color code? I also have the same year and configuration.
What do the 92YJ's 2.5L 5-Speeds come with stock?  I'm also curious
after upgrading to the 4.0LTB.

So just any of the orange injectors off of any explorer? Do they only come on the V8?

Thanks Jeffy,

After reading the link three times to absorb all the info,  I gathered that the stock 92 YJ comes with 17# injectors with a single jet.  The Ford 17# and the 19# injectors come with a 4 jet pattern for better fuel atomization.  Changing stock 17# injectors to Ford 17# injectors will yield in better top end power due to the ECM leaning out the fuel delivery over 4000 Rpm's.  If you have done any mods like the the 4.0L TB or the 62mm TB, TB spacer, high flow cats, etc... then you might want to go to the 19# Ford 4 jet injectors for better fuel delivery.  How am I doing so far LOL

I did take out the stock muffler and replaced it with a glass pack for better flow
removed both restrictors in the stock air intake box
added the 4.0L TB WITHOUT the spacer

So with your recommendations should I use the D/III Ford 17# or 19# injectors?

Thanks Jeffy for your great and informative articles ! ! !

haven't heard of anyone using the 17# injectors.. Id just go for the 19# and have the capacity for more fuel.. the computer will adjust for the bigger injectors with time anyways.

Although I have not swapped in new injectors yet, I'd have to agree about skipping the 17# injectors and going straight for the 19#. I would imagine that a 4-jet 17# injector might make a subtle difference if you had no other performance modifications whatsoever, but the stock ECM seems more than capable (and has proved itself to be really) capable of making adjustments for the larger injectors, with any mods you've done to benefit from them. Stock Ford injectors seem to be pretty cheap if you go to your local Pick N' Pull or find some off the net. Granted you're taking a chance of an injector not working with used or possibly even failure, at say $30-40 a set used they almost seem disposable!

Poking around at the local pick'n'pull I found a Town Car with the 4.6L V8.
I was actually looking for an electric fan (found one in a Taurus) but noticed orange injectors. I pulled the set of 8 and installed them. I also nabbed a 4.0 TB.
With all this installed it's running pretty good.
But while I was under the hood, I noticed my brake MC is leaking! Argh. So I have that coming tonight.
Anybody know the specs of these injectors I got? The number is F4SE-A1B and 0280155700 and is all orange polymer.

Are they Design II or Design III's?

I was hoping you could tell me!
I am guessing they are III's because they are all orange and have the 4 hole injector.

Well, I sourced the Bosch number and this is the injector I installed.
These are 19# design III's.
'91-'96 Crown Vics w/the 4.6L V-8 are the donor vehicle.
