Anyone paint their steelies?

Has anyone painted their stock steelies. Got any pics? I'm looking at some of the options Duplicolor offers for wheel/rim paint. I'm thinking either graphite or satin black.

02 2.5.L automatic: 4.0L t.b., 4.0l air intake, K&N filter, Scream'n Demon coil, 8.5mm MSD Super Conductor plug wires, Stage 1 Jet Chip, 29" BFG all terrain KO's. Taurus E-fan, Hummer front bumper, Skyjacker high capacity trans pan, 48" hi-lift, Rubi susp w. 3/4" BB.

Hey, I did that to my old steelies. I used the duplicolor graphite, came out fantastic. If you want to wait until it gets a bit warmer you can have them for the cost of shipping. I hate the cold so the thought of going to my parents shed sucks! I will try and get a pic for you tonight or tomorrow, they really did come out fantastic, professional looking if I say so myself..

someone in the parking ramp painted theirs black and it looks really nice actually...  :thumb:

I would go with Hammerite Hammered black.  Looks sort of like a textured grey.  Hammerite holds up well against dings from rocks as well.
 If you paint your wheels I recommend removing the tires first. Or a bare minimum, mask off the tire.  Nothing looks ghetto like overspray on the tires.

I was thinking about using Hammrite. I've seen it on some guys wheels around town and it does look pretty good. I'm still kind of up in the air as to what paint I'll use. I am leaning toward the Duplicolor though. Seems like the graphite wheel paint would look good. I'll know as soon as someone posts pics.  :whistle: I won't be painting for another 2 months at least. The weather here has barely gone above 20° and the garage isn't heated. Not good weather to paint in.

We use steelies on our race car and want them to look presentable - we normally clean them with a degreaser, wash them in the dishwasher (when my wife is out of town), rough them up with scotchbrite pads and then paint them with Rustoleum Hammered black.  To get the paint to harden, we put them under a sun lamp for a couple of hours or lay them out in the sun on a warm calm day.  The look decent and wear well.

If you already got them in the kitchen, why not just throw them in the over and bake the finish on :lol:  :wall:

I wonder about fumes on powder coating.  It must not be too bad but I have no idea.

From what I have read you have to use a seperate oven from the one you eat out of cause of something like that, but if I could pick up an old oven an a garage sale, I got tons of stuff I would like to powder coat

Obviously one wouldn't use HER oven but even in a shop, I would be concerned about fumes.  Probably would take the goodwill oven and mount it on wheels so I could park it outside while baking the parts.

I've had to explain alot of stuff and been able to get out of alot, but I don't know if I would be able to explain that one away.  Im going to go look at a house for sale this weekend thats got a nice big 25x30 garage and a 16x16 shop and hopefully if goes well I will be buyin me a goodwill oven and givin this a shot.

I'd paint them with spray on bed liner.  Not the thick stuff that is proffessionally done but the stuff you can get in a spray can.
