ive got a 97 with over 137k
clutch has never been replaced
and when its cold it is nearly imposable to shift to 2nd, normal grinds a little
and reverse is always hard to shift into, actually when i;m moving backwards out of gear and try to put it in reverse i cant put it in...is that normal or no?
The problem with 2nd is very common with the AX family. You don't hear of it as often but it was pretty common with all of the YJ's. You might try changing the fluid to something like Redline MT-90.
As for reverse. Yes, it's usually a PITA to get it into reverse when you're rolling backwards. I'm sure it's designed to be like this since reverse is geared lower then 1st and the shock could break something. Reverse is designed with an interlock that prevents you from miss-shifting form 5th into reverse. What you're supposed to do is shift into 1st then into reverse to disable the interlock. You can also disable is if you wiggle the shifter in neutral. If you pull it into reverse and it doesn't go in, try again and it usually drops in with a clunk.
So, yes, it's normal-ish...
