Not sure I'd buy one but they do sorta look nice.

The Earthroamer site is showing two used XV-JP models for sale.  See http://www.earthroamer.com

The first is a white 2007 that was used for a trip to El Camino del Diablo in Arizona, then retired to duty as a demonstrator at the Earthroamer showroom.  Here it is in a field behind the factory in Broomfield CO.

The asking price is $86K for a vehicle with 2100 miles.  Looks like you get a very new set of tires, too.

The second is the original green XV-JP, the unit that Earthroamer staff drove to Central America as a proof-of-concept demonstration.  Later, this vehicle was used by the staff of the "American Xplorer" TV show while they were filming in Central America.

This vehicle has about 30K miles on the clock.  Asking price is $60K.

The price of a new XV-JP model is $110K before options, so these two vehicles represent a substantial savings.

Chrysler's limited lifetime warranty is available to the first registered owner of new vehicles purchased after July 26, 2007.  It would be worth checking if theses vehicles were registered, of if Earthroamer uses "manufacturer" plates.

There was one on Ebay a few months ago. IIRC it was in the $80K range.

They look pretty cool. Would be great for someone who likes the Overland stuff. The Mojave Road would be ideal for something like that.

For $80K I think I'd rather buy a Defender 110 NAV, a Toyota FJ60,  or even an old ex-Swiss Unimog radio truck.

Good point, for that kinda money there is alot of choices. One of those Unimogs would be sweet, so would the 110.

You can get a 1970's Unimog Doka with a diesel for less then $20K.  A 404S Radio truck is around $5-8000.  Pintz and Volvo's would be around there as well.  I saw a drop-in Ambulance box for $800.

The only thing I don't like about the 404S's is that they have high-speed axles and aren't geared nearly as low as the 406/416's.  Not to mention, they aren't diesel.  The downside is mileage on the 404S is around 14mpg.  The upside is that it used a very common engine that was used in Merc 220's that were sold in the US.   Size-wise the Unimog would be HUGE compared to the JK.  A Volvo 303 would be about teh same size but stil have more room.
