Will these fit?

Hey guys, I have a line on a really good deal for a set of rims and tires.  They are 31" thornbirds on 15 by 10.   Will these fit ok without any lift?  I know in the future I'm going to get a 3" lift but just wondering if they will fit under my stock Jeep or should I wait until I do the lift then put them on?  I am kinda worried about how wide they are, and maybe they'll rub on my fender flairs if I don't put the  lift on at the same time.  What do you guys think?

Also would the tires fit my stock rims if I decide to just buy the tires? I am new to the modifying tires and rims thing and am not sure.  I just have the stock size tires on right now. 235/75/15 if that helps.

stock tj Rubicons have 31's so i would think that a tj could fit 31's stock (may be tighter than normal but drivable) the extra width may result in loss of turning radius (can't turn as far before hitting the frame), people have put 31's on stock yj's with rubbing and tj's hav3e more room so id say you will be fin until the lift comes. (if any of this rambling makes since)

What are you planning on using them for?  Thornbirds are heavy and don't work very well in any sort of offroad environment.

Backspace will also determine if they stick out or not.
Of all the Interco tires the Thornbirds are without a doubt the worst. If it were me I would pass. Look for tires that are not so heavy. You would not like the loss in performance with a heavy tire.

Well, they are marketed as an AT.  Being bias-ply doesn't help the matter any as an AT.  They look aggressive but really they aren't.  They don't wear well either.  So basically, they are the worst of all aspects in an offroad and onroad tire.  People still buy them though.  :confused:

Just out of curiousity who have you guys heard they are bad from? I'm not trying to argue, just trying to determine if they are a good enough tire for me or not. I have heard good things about them, but I will be using them in the mud and snow from time to time so if they really dont do any good in those conditions I don't think I want them.  But this will be mainly a road driver, with some offroading every once and a while.  For the price it's kinda hard to let these go but I will take your guys advice if you think I should stay away from them.

Have you ever run a bias ply tire? They flat spot bad overnight. When you start out in the AM the flat spots will cause bad vibes until the tire warms up, then they sorta round themselves out again. In cold weather it takes longer to do this.
The only time I saw someone running them was on a snow run. He was using snow chains and EVERYONE else was not. They suck as a mud tire. Search other forums about them. I don't think you will find anyone praising them.

Well I did what you said, researched them.  It turns out they are an A/T tire.  And when I did the research the only time someone complained about them being bad was when they didn't even run them on their own vehicle.  The other ones who ran them on their own seemed to like them alot.  I guess we'll see, if I can get these for the right price, then I'll buy them.  If I can't get them for the price I want, I'll pass on them, as they will only be ran in the summer, I already have good winter tires for the Jeep because I read these thornbirds suck on ice and snow.

I've seen several people run them.  The reason that there are always used thornbirds for sale is that people think they look cool, run them for a while and then sell them.  They pack up in mud and snow, don't grip rocks and weigh a ton.  Do a search for Thornbirds on google and see if you can find anyone with something positive to say.  (Other than they look bitchin or fresh or whatever the teeny boppers are saying these days )  :lol:

X3, 4, or 5 (whatever we're up to now).

I had Thornbirds on my old rig when they first came out (many years ago).  Got rid of my BFG Mud TA's for them.  They are very noisy, don't wear well, and don't do well in Sand, Mud, or on Rocks.  I wish I would have never got rid of those BFG's......

Learned my lesson, and went back with BFG's went I started working on the Jeep....no regrets on that one!

Well guys, I can get these things pretty dirty cheap and think I'll go with them just because of the price. That and I don't do alot of offroading while going to school.  My question is though will these fit on my stock rims?

Check the tires to see if they are 11.50 or 12.50 wide. The above link has a suggested wheel width for each.

Their suggested rim widths are retarded.  A 12.5" tire on a 10" rim?  Please.

True wide wheels are not good.  Either tire will fit fine on a 8 inch wide wheel.
