Jerry Cans vs. CARB
« on: February 05, 2009, 11:10:16 PM »
Damn, I should have bought some Wedco cans when I had the chance a few years ago!  Stupid CARB makes good NATO gas can into a leaking mess.  I don't get how it's supposed to be eco friendly when they leak!

Anyone know where to get Wedco Cas cans that aren't CARB legal?  I'd hate to be forced to buy Blitz cans.  The CARB legal Wedco cans aren't much better with their plastic cap.  I think the Blitz, because of their design won't change with the new laws.

How about Scepter MFC cans?  I can't find anyone selling those.

There's places like above that sell them, but I don't think you'll get a non CARB can shipped to Cali.

When searching for Scepter a couple years ago I had a hard time finding a vender that would ship to Cali. When I talked to venders in Cali they said that Scepter was having legal issues with selling them to non military. So the inventory might be dried up.
I did get one from Qtec and they shipped it to me. I just looked there and Scepter does not come up.
A buddy bought some and had them shipped to a friend in Washington State. Then he mailed them here.
See if you can find a Wedco and have it shipped to someone out of Cali then they can ship it to you. Kinda of a pain.
The laws in this state are stupid when it comes to gas cans. They would rather sell ones that leak like they have holes in them VS. the non leakers.

Why the need for extra fuel?

Yeah, I saw them in the Qtech catalog but they pulled them.  They now have some abomination Blitz looking can now.  I've checked everywhere and the only Wedco cans seem to be from the hummerhub or ebay and they don't ship to CA.  Not to mention they are $$$ now.

I've been meaning to get some cans for a while.  I don't really have a specific need for them though.  I have 0 cans right now.  Although from what I've been seeing Wedco may have stopped making the NATO capped cans.  It's not just CA that us using CARB.  CA, CT, DC, DE, MD, ME, NJ, NY, PA , TX & 5 Northern Counties Of VA all use CARB.

I was reading the Air Resource Boards regulations and the reason for the change is that people are using unauthorized containers that are spilling.  It's still pretty screwy that they are forcing containers that have worked for decades to change.

I wonder if BrigQM will even sell. It says Military purchase only.

I might have to have a friend buy be a couple. What a PITA.

I should have bought some when I was out of state still.  They were around $20 each.

That's a CARB Wedco.  From what I've been reading the nozzle tends to leak.  Although, I probably won't be pouring from them.  I'll probably use a self-priming syphon.  I'm also wondering how secure the cap is.  Wish it was metal and not plastic too.

The CARB Blitz cans look the same but have a screw on nozzle.  If I had to I guess I could coat the inside with tank sealer.

I wonder if people have resorted to using water cans for fuel.  They're usally $10 cheaper as well but are stamped water.

It seem that Wedco migth be stopping production on the Nato can with the integrated cap as well..

Well those aren't really the type of can I'm looking for.  I'm wanting a Gerry/Jerry/NATO gas can.

I think I found a place that sells surplus NATO cans and doesn't seem to care if you're in CA.  I'm guessing because they are sold a memorabilia and not a fuel container.  Kinda hard to beat $14 as well. 6 for $79 isn't bad either.

You could pick out the best of the bunch for yourself and sell off the rest. A good set of cans are hard to come by  :drink:

I have a Con-Ferr roof rack so I can have all 6 up top!  Saw a Rover run the Rubicon like that but they were all empty. ???  I'm sure I could find uses for all 6 though.  31.7 gallons plus 21 gallons would give me around 600-800 mile range.
