Plasti Dip on flares?
« on: March 04, 2009, 12:13:31 PM »
Has anyone ever used the black Plasti Dip on their flares? I used it today to coat my intake tube and the stuff is great!

I was wondering how well it would work on the flares? Last Halloween the neighborhood got egged by some kids and my flares took a beating because of it. I want to get them repainted once the temps warm up for a bit. I was thinking of using it on the flares. Anyone?

I'd use bumper black or some type of Krylon plastic paint.

That's what's on them (Krylon) now. Didn't hold up to well to the eggs. lol Plasti dip would probably fade in the sun now that I'm thinking about it. I'll re-coat with Krylon Fusion.

Yeah, Plastic-dip probably doesn't have any UV inhibitors.  If you're really wanting protection then I'd consider painting them with the flat paint.  Although that might not be an option.  I've always had good results with their flat paints.

The one place I think I will use it is the rear wheel wells. I removed the plastic liners about a year ago. I'm not so sure I like the tub color showing. The spray goes down pretty heavy so it should also give me some protection when pebbles from my driveway get flung off my tires and into the wheel well at 70 m.p.h.

Well they do make special rubberized undercoating just for that.  I still have my liners, although one is falling apart.  Keeps crap from getting kicked into the fuel filler area though.

I got a few cans of this stuff laying around. Can you tell I'm itching to use it somewhere? lol I lightly sprayed one of my baseball caps yesterday with the stuff. Now I have a waterproof, rubber coated cap.

[off topic] That thread is on the very top of my "funniest threads of all time" list.  In case some of you don't know what we're referring to... here's the link. I still laugh when I read it.
