Topic: got my tube fenders

wel i got my tube fenders for the front at a price i couldnt pass up. however with the price came the fact that they came bare steel. now with the notion in mind i dont care if its not pretty my fist instict i s to clean,primer and herculine. Any ideas or tips. since no tapping should i just see what rhinoline wants to spray them? Keep in mind I live in chicago and winter brings the salt. its gotta stick no matter what i do

I like the hammered finish did front bumper with it. no run marks. Rust is pretty bad in chicago. the amount of salt they put on the streets is sick. someone said to paint over a bed liner. ever try that

Before you paint, make sure you fit them to the Jeep first. Mine I had to mess with the mounting holes to get them to fit. I had them on and off the Jeep  countless times. Once you get everything to fit how you like it, then take them off and paint them or Hurc or powercoat.

I'm not a fan of powdercoating.  It looks great in the beginning but after it gets pits from even road debris you'll end up with purple spots everywhere.  That's rust in the powdercoat.  I like heavy duty paint like hammerite since it's cheap and easy to touch up.

Beadliner won't last long if you rub them against rocks or trees.

I agree on powder coat. In chicago it lasts just one winter if its a daily driver. Then pops. I was under the impression that bed liner adhears to itself so going back over it if u gouge it isnt a biggie. Am i wrong?

I use Rustolium on just about everything. I like the hammered finish and agree that it is tougher than the regular type paints but I have only used the Rusto. I tried the Krylon and liked the fact it dried way faster, but it's a weak paint and scratches easily.

I don't think bedliner will give you anything better then paint other then costing more.  It will scrape off easier then smooth paint will.

I should mention I also like Krylon's flat paints.  They hold up pretty good to the elements.  Easy to touch up without having noticeable spray marks.

I also use Rustolium Professional paints.  These are really tough as well since they are designed to be used on kitchen appliances as well as washers and driers.

I sprayed my roll cage with bedliner and it has done well.  Not to mention that it was easy to touch up.  If you don't go the bedliner route I'd do what Jeffy is suggesting.

offroad utopia, fenders and shipping for 200, welds arnt very clean but seem strong. but like i said not worried if its pretty
