Garvin racks

Anyone have the pros and cons of the garvin overhead racks? Big pricw tag always scared me but found one at right price. All info helpfull. thanks. Its the one that mounts on the windshield hinges then bolts in the rear of tub, tilts to change tops

Well, i donīt have a garvin rack but i do have a Kargo Master (http://www.kargomaster.com/item.asp?id=62), it's the same system you describe. I'm quite happy with it, it's really heavy duty (500 lbs. capacity). The only downturn is that it is really tall, but it's easy to remove.  If you have any questions i would be happy to reply them.

well seems the people that have them like them. the people that dont say they dont like the look or then it wont fit in the garage. seeing as my baby mommas all have houses and garages no thanks to the dough they get from me. I rent therefor no garage to worry about. Might not clear parking garages downtown but hell I will just take the corrolla or the train. wana keep a low profile coming home feeling good from a concert anyways. I dont mind the look and sure could use the storage when I am going out to my fam cottage or camping with the kids. And i know its a jeep and dont drive it like a corvette so for 125 and a 2hour drive to the boonies think it will be well worth my time and effort. supposed to pick it up fri. I will add picks when I get

If I had to buy a roof rack, I'd probably go with the Gavin.  They seem to the some of the best options.  I like how, they allow you to drop the windshield and remove the top and still have the rack on.  Having it able to flip to the back is kind of nice too.  I also like their expedition rear rack and bumper as well.

Looking at the pictures of the garvin rack, it looks lighter than the Kargo master (witch is a bit heavy) it also looks a little bigger, the KM is 52" x 60" and the garvin 54" x 72". With both you can remove your top without taking the rack off, they tilt to the back. When I bought my kargo master I chose it because it was a little cheaper, at quadratec the kargo master goes for 704.95 shipped and the garvin for 880.97. Hope the deal you found is better than that  :thumbsup:

Doesn't the Kargo Master use the rear tail light mounting holes to bolt the rear legs to?  I'm not really keen on that idea.  Not to mention, that means you have to have stock taillights.

well have to get jeep on the road to pick it up. just finished 4inch sua and went to drop transfer case and i got one side done then went to other and one bolt missing couldnt thread a new one in. one just spun and one came out nicely. prob not too safe with just one bolt on that side. or driving w just one side dropped. what should I do? cant afford sye right now cause i have to pick up rack and bumpers guy fabbed up for me

You can try some PB blaster or something like it. If the bolt is spinning that more than likely means that the nut came loose inside the frame. Try taking a prybar or large chisel, or screwdriver and wedge it between the skid and the frame. Maybe if enough pressure is applied the nut will stay in place while the bolt comes out.
Not the safest thing driving with only 1 bolt holding that side of the skid in.

I ended up cutting small triangle shaped holes. cut bolt between skid and frame. then dropped new grade 8 bolt and washer in from the inside down. going to have my welding guy tach bolt on inside so it wont spin then weld a piece of steel over the hole i had to create.

I got the rack. 3.5 hours round trip. well worth it. rack was 125. not too much rust. gonna por15 then bedline entire thing. I like the way the light were reversed to hang down rather stick up in the air like i have seen in other pics. Here is a link for a pic. till i get better ones.
