I'm using an AEM Brute Intake on my truck and will be switching the jeep over to one also as soon as I get the current projects on it done.  It does alot better job filtering then a K&N and I like that you don't have to oil the filter, which just helps attract more dust to it.

the hole point of an air filter is to filter out dust and other airborn crap.. so i don't see why people compail about oil attracting dust to air filters when thats their job.. and it doesn't attrack the dirt it just makes it stick... not saying k&n is better but just throwing out my observation...

im def happy with mine. i dont think too many ppl on this forum run that intake but it def is worh it in my opinion. i got more of a result from that intake then i did when i put in the 62mm TB-hardly felt a thing with that on-though i guess it grunts and gives me a bit more oomph but nowhere near the results others are posting about it-guess myTJ is destined to be a slow, low HP, gas sucking (13mpg on 31s baby!), pig lol. I used to suck down half a tank on a 60 mile trip to NYC-highway!!-put in the AEM, drank just a quarter of a tank. put in the TB and mpg went down a hair but no where near suckin half a tank on a 60 mile trip.....so i def think AEM is a good filter

Problem is that so much dust sticks to a K&N that your motor stops running.  That and the K&N lets some of that junk through.  Their better performance is usually because they don't filter as well as a stock element.

One of the diesel magazines I read, can't remember which one, but a while back did a comparison of the filters and the K&N was one of the worst at actually filtering stuff out.   Yeah it lets in a lot more air, but its not blocking anything from the filter.  I noticed that when I was washing out my AEM filter the other day that when it started filling up with water, the filter actually started filling up with water, where the K&N filter emptied the water out as quickly as it went in.  Which this kind of helps lead me to believe that it doesnt filter as well

well a couple of things,  just my two cents,  kn filters are designed to work with oil and most people mess that part up/  oil bath filters have been around for ever and always worked/  two i run a prefilter on my kn (just like most of the old oil bath filters had)/  the only thing i can say about the aem 4cyl intake was that i sent mine back/  its fitment was terrible/  the metal surround was not shaped well for the cavity and multiple things had to be relocated to make it fit/  the worst for me was the the couplers did not seat far onto the pipes (meaning the pipes went into the couplers very shallow) and that made me think there was a good chance of them coming apart,  cause i have had it happen before,  so in not so many words,  i was displeased with the aem and sent it back where it came from

I remember reading a JP article years ago that did a dyno for each of the different kinds of set ups and the stock airbox with a good clean filter (they recommended Mopar) performed as well as the high dollar set ups.  fwiw, ymmv
